Change of scenery

The last time my rent was raised, I told my resident managers that I wanted to know about new vacancies in the building. I've been in the same studio since April of '04, and figure a change would do me good. I love my building, though, so I'd like to stay here, but have a better view. Mine's pretty good, but I know some of the ones in the front have stellar views, much like my old apartment up the hill. Also, being next to the church, parking garage, and motorcycle shop (with a school across the street) can get pretty annoying.

One of them (they're a married couple) saw me at the elevator at told me that one of the ones on the front of the building is becoming available at the end of August. I'm probably going to take it, because the increase in rent won't be that much. It will also be a good chance to go through my stuff and get rid of some of it. I'm not nearly as much of a pack rat as I used to be, but I'm not exactly good at casting off worldly possessions, either.

There will be less foot traffic going past my unit because it's at the end of a hallway instead of on the way to the back door. It will also be a lot more private, because the building is T shaped, and part of the top line of the T looks right at me currently. Even though the front is a busier street, I actually think it'll be quieter. On top of the other noises I listed earlier, I can also hear people in my alley all the time, and the crowd on the patio at Capitol Club, even though I face away from them.

By far, the weirdest part will be the orientation. I've got a really good sense of direction and always think about which direction I'm facing. The layout in the new place is the same as my current one, but is turned 90 degrees clockwise. I think that will take a while to get used to.

It'll also be hard to decide if I should keep the decorations the same, or if I should switch it around a little bit. I'm pretty limited with the furniture layout options, and the decorations are based on the furniture's placement. At the very least, I hope to hang some new things up.

They told me I don't have to answer right away, and I'm glad.

Oh, and it's on the same floor, so at least the move will be easy.

EDIT TO ADD: If I move, I will finally alphabetize my CDs again. They've been out of order since I moved in 2000.
