Maybe I'm stupid when it comes to music videos. I really love certain ones and never forget them, and I'm overly critical of mediocre ones. I get ideas for videos in my head and when I see the actual one I'm pissed that someone was paid more for a week than I make in a year to turn it out.
misterdoug gave me Spacehog's album way back in the day, and I always pictured a nice video I could direct in my mind. The Hot Topic reject steaming turd that actually aired disgusted me.
That makes it hard to admit that I came across this video recently and was absolutely fascinated. Say what you will about excessive collaboration in pop music (I know I hate it) but if you've got two women who are built similarly, you may as well run with it.
I caught it right around time marker 2:12 (make sure to click the timer if it's showing time remaining instead of time that's passed) and thought I'd come across some new artist. I kept thinking, wow, she looks like Shakira! Wow, she looks like Beyonce! Wow, she sounds like both of them! Yeah, turns out it's because it's both of them. Doy.
I'm ambivalent toward the song, but the video from 2:12 onward fascinates me. When I thought it was one woman, it looked like the most amazing special effects. I kept looking for the line between them where the lighting would be off, or a little blurry area, or anything to reveal the wizardry behind this. Turns out, it's just hair and choreography.
The only thing that would make it better would be if they grabbed each other and started 69ing, each grabbing the other's huge hairdo in a frenzied rage of passion.
Ok, so here's the video. Skip to 2:12 into it if you need to. Also: mute it if you need to.
PS - I'm so glad I can get on YouTube again.
EDIT TO ADD: There's some serious relevance; it looks like the video was made in India, big time.
