It's a very old fridge and the gasket that seals the air out is not very airtight.

The last time I defrosted was actually quite lulzy.

It's not gross, it's just ice. It's really just a pain in the ass.

The main issue here is that my fridge is from before there even was such a thing as Wal-Mart.

I had one of those in my last place. I love the new ones that automatically defrost!

Me too usually, but our defrost heater just broke in our freezer making it so the whole fridge/freezer wouldn't get cold enough due to zero air flow. 300$ to fix it!

Renting rocks. When I had a problem with my fridge, they had a new one up to me in less than 2 hours!

I dunno, I rent, and the broken defroster thermostat in my fridge didn't get fixed until I'd lived here a year; I was forced to defrost it about four times. Due to a stupid kitchen remodel, it has less than an inch of clearance on the sides and the top, so replacing it requires finding one that's just the right size. So, the landlord opted for repair instead and it took three tries before anyone actually fixed it. =P

But at least I didn't have to pay for it.

I really have tough time handling all that. :)

But the fact you are cute makes it all much much easier.

It makes us feel better about ourselves, knowing that no matter how old and crappy my fridge may be, at least it's self-defrosting.
