Yesterday I followed the Lifetime Unauthorized Melrose Place Story with the Lifetime Unauthorized Beverly Hills, 90210 story, not realizing yesterday was the 30th anniversary of 90210's first episode. I also didn't realize that I'd end up dreaming about the Melrose Place one, but in my version, they double-casted every role and eliminated one of everyone based on performance in rehearsals right up until time to shoot the first scenes. That's funny because if you've watched season 1 of Melrose Place, you can tell they didn't rehearse, and the Unauthorized Melrose Place Story confirms that.

These are fun and should be watched in the opposite order because that's the order the shows were made in. Some of the casting is the same in both movies but oddly, one woman plays a different agent in each and her role in the Melrose Place one didn't make it onto the IMDb entry.

And the casting of Abbie Cobb as Jennie Garth is the most brilliant biopic casting I've ever seen. She looks so much like her I could barely believe it.

I recently had a dream where I was browsing in a store and suddenly couldn’t find an item I’d just seen a minute earlier, and there was tons of it before. Some sort of yellow paint tubes with an attached brush or something. I asked the sales associate where it all went and she said they ran out of it a few days earlier. I said no, I just saw a whole bunch of it right here.

“That area was fully stocked when you were here three weeks ago, but we sold it all.”

Realizing I’d lost three weeks worth of memories was absolutely terrifying anyway, but my heart started pounding when she asked, “Don’t you remember? that was a crazy day. Hold on, I have some saved Instagram stories.”

Thankfully I woke up in a panic right then but the feeling of dread lasted for hours.

If there's one area I feel my life is lacking, it's socially. My social life declined sharply when I committed myself to an early morning schedule, and of course I lost it completely when we moved from Seattle to Everett. Over the last few years, I've met a lot of people, but people don't seem to throw enough parties or plan other types of things to do. I try to do my part, consistently throwing two parties a year now, and if someone else throws one, I'll definitely go.

Last night, the friend I made carrying the banner at the July 4th parade threw a fondue party.

I went all-out with the stuff I brought to dip: cosmic crisp apples vacuum sealed to retain their color, donut holes, pretzel bread, and mini pigs in blankets. And I'm definitely sad I waited too long and didn't get a mini pig.

But mainly I just had an awesome time socializing. I don't get enough of that in my life, and I wish I'd gotten more last night. But I left a little bit after 8:00 since I was tired and had to get myself home. If she throws this party again next year, I'm taking an Uber so I can have more drinks and stay later, for sure.

I had a glass of wine when I got home and watched Roswell and was finally asleep around 10:00 because no matter how late it is, I do need the time to wind down after social stuff. Today's not a work day and my alarm was off, and I had just about the best night of sleep and dreams I can ever remember. I woke up a bunch of times throughout the night, but somehow managed to jump right back into the same dream for the entire night.

In it, I auditioned for a role in a '60s movie on a whim and got the part, and we were in pre-production headquartered in a large abandoned bank space on Broadway in the old neighborhood in Seattle. Filming was weeks off and we were enjoying the time, treating it as team building and character research, with parties in the evenings. So really, I got to go to a bunch of parties in my brain all night, too.

I don't believe in New Year's resolutions but if I could ask for one thing in 2020 it'd be for other people to arrange more social events. If we all did a couple a year there'd be so many that there'd be a couple a month and one couldn't even be expected to go to them all.

In the meantime, I was told last night I should join some of the women there to play pool occasionally on Fridays, and that sounds pretty awesome, too.

My dream this morning was a horror movie starring [livejournal.com profile] notlostonme. She was trapped with a group of friends in a huge mansion that also had a bowling alley, and had until dawn to bowl a 300, taking shots while the killer stepped away from the lanes to hunt down the others. Between strikes, she had to hide from the killer because she was a target as well. I woke up just after it was apparent she finished the game and bowling balls started crashing in through doorways and staircases to distract him, and she was about to emerge and crack his skull open with the ball she bowled a perfect game with.

Here's a time lapse of the sun in yesterday afternoon's smoke. Today I'm probably only leaving the house to go to the grocery store.

Sometimes I wonder if working from home is bad for immunity. I'm rarely in any sort of crowd. Even regular crowded places like grocery stores, I try to hit in the morning when they're empty.

In one part of a very long dream I had this morning, Garrett walked in during a large gathering of family and friends with no beard left because he messed up with the clippers. He hadn't shaved off all the stubble yet, and looked pretty good! He left for a bit and that's when I noticed Gary Johnson was there, vaping. I figured if I had to be stuck at a gathering with Gary Johnson, I may as well get stoned, too, so I did. Garrett came back, and [livejournal.com profile] gower_power sneaked up behind him to do a lewd doggy-style gesture. I said they looked very sexy and Gary Johnson kept staring at me, disapprovingly. Only the one hit of dreamland weed I'd done was making me see two Gary Johnsons, and it wasn't even double vision, they weren't in sync or anything. Imagine the horror of being stared at by two Gary Johnsons.

[livejournal.com profile] boomstick was also there, hanging out with a cousin I don't really like who was being a brat.

Last night for the first time in ages, the sounds around me crept into my dream. My boxer briefs were made of sheet metal, and when I bumped into one of the front porch walls at my grandparents' house, they made a rattling noise that wouldn't stop. I finally woke up and realized it was the sound of my CPAP. That got me thinking about it a lot, and I realized it was finally time to address my water bottle situation.

I had a really beautiful dream this morning in which Tatiana ([livejournal.com profile] suxdonut) and her brother Ian ([livejournal.com profile] drinkyclown) and I were having a grand time swimming and taking photos in strange and impossible natural waterways before making our way to the art school we all went to. Turns out I was being "laid off" from school even though I was very successful there and really well-liked. Lots of artwork I'd made was on display around the campus and I was trying to photograph an enlarged version of a page from a test I'd taken. It explained that I chose to draw the assigned cupcakes dancing down a waterfall because I wanted to work at JWT or BBDO and they needed to be dynamic.

This thing was about the size of a 2-car garage and hung over the main lobby. It looked great in person but none of the angles I tried on my phone worked. This is a common theme in my dreams, the phone or the computer just doesn't work. Tears rolled down my face because I just wanted a good photo and all I could get was a black screen. And it wasn't really clear at the time if all my work was staying up after I left.

On my way out, I saw Tatiana giving a tour through the student gallery, explaining that a lot of our stuff was going to be switched out soon because we'd all inadvertently used similar color schemes and they not only all looked too much like Instagram filters, but they were especially annoying to colorblind people. The works in question were made from pastel construction paper and hung down from the ceiling like banners, and I was shocked they were even staying together as everyone walked through and touched them.

And then I remembered I still had an office to clean out that had Zima and other neon signs, and I of course had no idea how I was going to get that all moved to or where it would go.

------

I spent a good half an hour or so laying in bed basking in the amazing imagery from that dream and thinking about how in my real life, I managed to land a job in a JWT subsidiary and work my way from a hellish account service position into my branch's first traffic role, and finally a copywriting job that was what I'd always wanted, and turned out to be a huge disappointment. And I also can't get over how strange and fantastic the things I see in my dreams can be. They don't even feel like they come from my own mind sometimes.

I didn't sleep very well between 2:00 and when my alarm went off at 4:00, so I went back to bed for a bit. The 40 minutes that passed between then and when I finally got out of bed seem like a lot more. I dreamed that Garrett and I were eating breakfast, and I thought I could see neighbors across the way in their kitchen, but it turned out to be people gathering in our living room, and the house turned out to be the last one I lived in before leaving Albuquerque.

About 20 people started pouring in, and it turned out to be a flash mob housekeeping service someone had arranged for us. I was somewhat grateful because the house was a mess, but the people were really annoying. There was an old-timey theme to it all. They quickly hung up period art, wore costumes, and all talked over each other to try to be funny and make us feel important. I yelled at them and went to take some trash to the alley.

I think I jumped back in time because they were gone and it was night, and the house was still a mess. Sam and Steve were there, as well as a Maine coon who'd just had a litter of kittens. I asked if we had to update our vacation cat sitting plans because of them, or if the the mom cat would just take care of the kittens herself. A legitimate question. Steve was making a very big mess of all my oldest possessions, like the jewelry I used to wear in high school. And Garrett was briefly replaced by my oldest friend Chad.

In the back yard again, I tried to post something with my phone, but when I pulled it out, it was a small blue square, and that's when I realized I was dreaming. The whole thing had been pretty tedious, so I decided to wake up. I'm not sure if I actually did, or just dreamed that I woke up for a bit, but when I tried to turn over off my stomach, I found myself in a dream again. Realizing I was lucid, I figured I'd walk around a bit and see what I could see.

I left via a hotel lobby in San Francisco, and the streetscape was quite realistic. One thing I noticed that was off was that the raindrops hitting the sidewalk flowed uphill. Across the street, I walked past a Thai restaurant and was amazed by the level of detail my brain created in the mural on the side, which was full of writing I have no way of reading, writing, or even faking if I drew it in real life, and it didn't shift or anything when I studied it as I passed. Behind that was an even bigger wall painted green and covered in really cool faces painted in various shades of black, green, and yellow.

I repeated the cycle of either waking up or thinking I did, then rolling out of bed and into the hotel lobby a few more times, but I can't remember anything else I saw. I know all of this happened because I was laying on my stomach in frustration after tossing from one side to the other for those two hours, because I could see the imagery in front of me becoming the sensations of the pillow pressed against my face as I woke up. There was an article a while back which said you're more likely to have erotic dreams if you sleep on your stomach, but I'd take that a step further and say you're more likely to have detailed dreams, and if they turn erotic, that's just the option you went with.

How appropriate that I just woke up from a dream that he was a major star in. We were at home (a completely different, but also very cool house) and I was having a look at the permit he'd obtained to hang out at a certain area to film some sort of airplane test. I heard some noises outside and went to investigate.

This particular house had a huge ravine behind it that had tons of small trees and bushes in it. Off in the distance I could see something black moving around. At first I thought it was a wild boar, but then I was pretty sure it was a bear. I ran back inside, hoping to just go to bed and never see any more wildlife.

Back inside, I heard Garrett say, "Come here, Sonya!" which I thought was weird. He started bringing some big boxes out, which I thought were for recycling, but he reached into one and brought out two bear cubs. They were so cute and cuddly, but I said he had to get rid of them immediately. If their mom didn't kill us, they'd certainly do it themselves once they were big enough.

I spent the rest of the dream walking around the house checking it out, and was glad when I woke up. The cubs were still there the whole time and I just wanted them gone.

I had a very Inception sort of night. I always wake up many times during the night because I can only sleep on my sides, and I get sore and have to flip. Plus I snore. Yadda yadda. But last night I had the kind of night where I kept going back into the same dream, plus in the dream, I'd also wake up over and over, and I'd been dreaming the dream within a dream for about a month.

The cool part was that in the dream, I was watching Mad Men, and instead of ending at the end of this season, it kept going, but with new characters outside the advertising world. And they were all played by musicians. I can't really remember who all I saw, but I know for sure that PJ Harvey looks really great in 1970 business drag.

I had a dream this morning that I was in a horror movie about three siblings, and I knew things were going to be very bad because I'd seen the sequel. They were all alive and older in the sequel, so I knew they'd be ok, but I didn't know if I, or anyone else, would make it. It was toward the end of the movie, and someone had already tried to kidnap and kill them.

They needed to be kept safe, so a family invited them over for a huge slumber party in their four-story loft. They liked to throw huge poker parties, so one whole floor was stuffed with disassembled purple velvet poker booth seating pushed together to form slumber party bedding. Huge sectional sleeping, it was neat. But there were also huge spaces under all of them. I kept trying to get the hired security to look underneath, but I couldn't say to them that I knew someone was probably under one.

I also kept finding that the building wasn't nearly as secure as they thought. It was huge and they'd just lost track of everything. I pushed the back of some bookshelves and it turned out to be a set of doors that weren't locked looking out onto some train tracks. And a guy riding a bike ran into the door. The shelves were nailed in pretty securely, though, so it seemed like nobody would be able to get in that way.

I woke up and was pretty relieved that nothing had happened yet, but I managed to fall back asleep into the same dream. A couple of times. Or maybe I dreamed that I woke up.

I've never liked when the alarm wakes me up during a dream, but today it was a relief. Way too much suspense.

This morning I dreamed that Lindy West and I were helping test a new transportation service for stressed-out people. They fed us pot cookies and laid us on a flatbed truck and drove us around. I actually was quite stoned in the dream. The only thing I remember saying was, "If I ever become a concert, I'm definitely hiring these guys." We laughed and laughed.

In my dream this morning, we were watching a movie where Neil Patrick Harris, Pandora Boxx, and Morgan McMichaels were wizards in medieval times. They'd been to battle, and NPH's face was torn up. There was a metallic outline around each of his injuries, which I thought was just some sort of magic spell healing him. But then he started pulling his skin off, revealing a metal skull underneath. The familiar Terminator music theme started playing, and we realized that the producers managed to make the whole Terminator reboot movie in secret, and nobody had spoiled it for us before we went to the theater. Everyone watching was completely stunned, realizing they were witnessing movie history.

The Terminator had obviously been sent too far back in time like that  one episode of Sarah Connor Chronicles. I'm sad that I woke up shortly after that and didn't get to see more.

I heard a few bars of my alarm tone, but it was really faint, and it stopped on its own, so I figured I dreamed it. It was already a strange night because earlier, I got up to pee and saw it was 3:30. Normally that would be probably my third time getting up to pee, and it's really weird for me to sleep for that long without getting up. Anyway, I figured when I woke up again it was probably 3:45 or so and that my alarm would be coming along shortly. I even had a mini-dream where I looked at my phone and it was 4:20.

I can't remember if my main dream happened before all this or in the middle of it, but in it, I was an actor starring in a biopic. It was about an assassin who was hired by the government to tour with The Beatles, who were reunited with a John Lennon impersonator. The assassin looked like the impersonator, and would carry out missions during those Beatles shows.

Of course, now that I think about it, it would be smarter to have the assassin just be a roadie. Anyway.

I was playing that assassin in the biopic, and I was dating the actor Alec Mapa. He was visiting me on location.
And he could fly. We were flying around kinda like Superman and Lois Lane and just talking about stuff, and I was really impressed with him because he wasn't smug, even though he could fly.

Back in reality, I was laying around, drifting in and out of sleep, and was really amazed by how long my expanded perception of time kept going. I really thought I was laying in bed between 3:45 and 4:10, but then the hallway light came on and Garrett was feeding the cats, and I caught a glimpse of the clock. I could see the minute hand pointing down, which meant it was at least 4:30. Curious. So I got up to grab my phone, and found that it wasn't even in its spot. I left it out by the couch all night, and probably actually heard it at 4:10 when I thought I was dreaming it. It was actually more like 5:35 and I was able to get here about half an hour later by skipping my walk.

In my dream this morning, I was in Albuquerque for my 20-year high school reunion that got canceled last year in real life. It was happening, but something came up and I was only able to make the tail end of it. Basically, everyone was leaving and they'd all already had their good time and nobody really wanted to say hi to me. My former roommate was there for some reason (she graduated a year after me) and was being a total bitch.

The next morning, I joined my German teacher and a few students to cook some chicken. I think I was supposed to leave again, but she convinced me to stay for just one piece. I think it's because I was just reading a broiled chicken recipe in the book I'm currently reading and it sounded really good.

Garrett and I were back in the hotel and lightning struck right outside our window. It was a dotted-line ribbon going horizontally and I marveled for a split second how amazing it looked before the window exploded in and we were thrown across the room. I was on the bed and could feel my arm breaking when I woke up laying on my arm.

I felt off and sad when I woke up, and was really grateful that I was out for an amazing walk to cheer me up. I probably would have forgotten the whole thing, but I just saw this and it all came rushing back.

One of the things I dream about all the time is real estate. I'm always having dreams about really weird places to live, like strange buildings on hills with switchback hallways, rows of apartments with glass living rooms on the ends, and penthouses with impossible views.

This morning, it was about my grandparents' house. In real life, it was a really cool house. It was built on a giant plot of land in a really peaceful neighborhood, and it started as a two-room house and eventually became a giant 3-bedroom. Amazing brick living room looking out onto a giant, screened-in porch. Master bedroom with an entire wall of closet with floor-to-ceiling mirror sliding doors. Nothing particularly ostentatious, just big and well-done. My mom's stepdad eventually even added a huge workshop and a freestanding garage big enough for a Winnebago.

In the dream this morning, everyone was still alive, and we were there checking the place out as somewhere to possibly take over and move into. The garage had become a miniature warehouse, and there was an apartment-sized master suite upstairs in one corner. I was pretty excited about it, but suddenly I realized the concrete wasn't dry and everyone had messed it up. We started to smooth it back out, when a huge row of cabinetry came crashing down, destroying two cars.

I almost never realize I'm dreaming, no matter how ridiculous the situation becomes. When it does happen, I really enjoy the experience of lucid dreaming, but it's rare. I should have realized it immediately when my mom's stepdad told me he loved me in the dream, because that definitely never would have happened in real life.

Back when I was in high school, my mom and I saw Paula Poundstone and I decided to make a pair of earrings to have sent backstage to her. I mounted them on a copy of my "sheet of paper completely filled with little interlocking people" art project that I spent many weeks on. I wish I could find a copy of that.

Anyway, she wrote a thank-you note on that paper and had it sent back out to me. I don't really remember what it said, but I'll never forget that she abbreviated her own name as "PAULA POUNDST." when she signed it, which I thought was hilarious.

Either this morning or yesterday, I had a dream that I was wondering if she actually ever wore those, and then I turned on the TV and spotted her wearing them on a one-hour comedy special she had done that I somehow never knew about. I could tell it was old, and was wondering if she had them even still. Then I turned the channel and saw that she was wearing them while playing Sarah Palin.

I might have forgotten this whole dream, if not for the fact that I just now saw this picture of Crispin Glover on tumblr, in which he looks just like Paula Poundst.
