Person moves into a new house and finds a diary written by someone who lived there before.

Cop showing up to deal with noise complaint is actually a stripper.

Bad father is always passed out in front of the TV with a can of beer in his hand whenever someone comes home. 

Bad father dies or sobers up by the end of the movie.

Observation decks (Empire State Building, Space Needle) which are always completely packed in real life are usually quite empty in movies.

The last day of school is for breaking up, falling in love, or both.

There's a version of the finding a diary from the former occupants in "The Dreamlife of Angels". One of the main characters finds a diary of the girl whose flat it is but who is now in a coma from a car accident. She takes the diary to the girl in the coma in the hospital and reads it to her. Since it's not a Hollywood movie, the coma girl does not wake up.
