There's food and yard waste service at our place but we didn't want to deal with a stinky, disgusting compost bin inside. Garrett had the brilliant idea of getting a big plastic bin we can keep in the refrigerator. We keep it on the very top shelf where things are kinda hard to find anyway.

Not everything can go in the disposal and it sucks when you end up with smells and flies because there's too much food in your trash.

Plus it gets turned into compost for the local parks and gardens.

everytime i put something in the garbage disposal, i remember that episode of Home Improvement where Tim rigged it so it practically works as a wood chipper.

Cool! I have a friend who puts hers in the freezer. Whatever works to save a little space in landfills and nourish plants is great! :-D

we have our compost bin on the counter, but we tape a dryer sheet to the inside of the lid. it keeps the smell down, and we take it out often enough so that no fly get in our apt.

My mum would keep hers in the freezer as well!
