Ink update
Dec. 8th, 2007 09:46 amAs we got started last night, I asked him how much longer it would take to finish my tattoo and how much it would cost. The reason I was concerned is that I get paid twice a month, and more than half of my check from the 4th always goes toward rent. He said he needed two more hours at $125/hr. I asked him to keep it to an hour last night because I didn't want to spend too much, and after he thought about it for a minute, he said he'd cut me a deal. If I could spend $200, he'd finish it. I said that was fine, and he could keep the $40 deposit he already had as a tip, and I'd bring another $40 after my next payday as a tip.
I'm glad we made this deal, because he went a little nuts. Without actually telling me what he was doing, he said, "I'm adding some sky around it so there's not just a floating tree." I wish he would have said something first, because the tree floating on its own would have looked nice opposite the seahorse on my other arm. I quickly decided I'd rather just let him go with it, because he made it a much bigger tattoo, and it will probably look more interesting because of it. I say "probably" because right now I really have no idea how it will look. The areas that will be gray when it heals are black right now, so my whole arm is a black blob. I haven't even undone the bandage yet, either.
The reason I said I was glad we made the deal is that he actually spent three hours working on it last night, so I got $375 worth of work for $200. Score.
I have a feeling that my mission will now be to think of another object to be on the opposite side of my arm, and I'll just have him fill the rest of my forearm with the "sky" swirls. It would be nice if I could think of something to represent my dad on that side.
It's weird to look at my arm and realize I won't know what it'll actually look like for a while.
