Jun. 14th, 2008 10:55 pmEvery few years I find a food that makes me gag because it smells like something I associate with pets. I used to use cilantro in my homemade iguana food, and it took about three years after I gave all my iguanas away before I was finally able to eat some.
The nastiest non-poop pet smell I ever had to deal with was the stuff I fed my hermit crab. I don't know to this day what was in it, but every once in a while I'll catch a whiff of something that would be good if I didn't associate it with a nasty terrarium. The most spot-on one was caramel ginger chicken at Dragonfish, and now I have some rosemary tortillas at home that really make it all come rushing back as soon as I open the door to the microwave. I'll definitely be avoiding this brand going forward.
Completely unrelated: I had a really nice time as a guest on
