Feb. 7th, 2014 09:15 amI refuse to buy cocktail sauce and tartar sauce. Pre-made tartar sauce is weird, it's hard to get through a whole jar of cocktail sauce, and both are really easy to make. I just always keep horseradish around. Cocktail sauce made of ketchup and horseradish is great, and my tartar sauce is out of this world. Sorry I don't measure anything like this, but here are the ingredients:
mayo
lemon juice
dill relish*
chopped capers
horseradish
garlic salt or salt and pepper
dill
Dill relish is another thing that's not necessary to keep around. I don't like sweet pickles even though I like sweet relish, so I prefer to chop up a dill pickle if I need dill relish, and keep a jar of sweet relish around.

Speaking of pickles, pickle juice is amazing. It's great as a marinade or to chase shots with. I don't even like whisky, but I'll drink it with a pickleback.

Never buy anyone a coffee cup as a gift unless it's a very awesome coffee cup. Nobody needs any more coffee cups.

Don't be a party pooper if you aren't interested in the sporting event or the awards show. Volunteer to cook since the people who are interested will want to watch. They'll love you and you'll love impressing them with your offerings.

The thing that made me think to post this in the first place. Those little jars of gravy are awesome. Sometimes you just want a couple of tablespoons of gravy!
