Ok, my new tattoos finally look good enough to share! Any of you who are also Facebook friends with me know that I've wanted knuckle tattoos for years. It took me a long time to settle on which ones I really wanted, and when I finally did, the desire to get them increased dramatically. I started to really feel there was no reason for me not to have them since it wouldn't have mattered during the 13 years at my last job and they wouldn't have been an issue at my new one, either. Plus one of the people I admire most in terms of their career has her hands heavily tattooed and is basically the face of the company she works for.

What really clenched it was becoming super jealous of AJ at Catalyst Cafe. Their knuckles say 867- 5309 and I kinda wished I'd thought of it first. But I came up with an even more obscure '80s reference.

If "room 2704" doesn't ring a bell, check out the movie Midnight Madness from 1980. It's what I call a "cable classic" because it was in constant rotation in the '80s on HBO and its competitors. I couldn't even begin to guess how many times I saw it, along with Poltergeist, Just One of the Guys, and many others.

Room 2704 at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles plays an important role in the movie, even though it should be pretty obvious by looking at those scenes that they were filmed elsewhere. I don't want to ruin it for you but you'll probably figure it out. Much of the stuff before and after was! But the most important scenes clearly were not. That didn't stop me and Garrett from cutting our vacation rental short one night so we could stay at the Bonaventure and get photos in front of the room.

I was a little offended to discover when we were there that the hallway into the hotel lobby from the parking garage had a really nice gallery of posters from movies that feature the Bonaventure prominently, but Midnight Madness wasn't included.

Speaking of which! There's an absolutely incredible poster showing a diagram of the hotel in the movie that I'd pay a lot of money for. But you can tell it was the kind of movie that nobody thought to save anything from. I'd be shocked if there was a single prop anywhere on display or in someone's collection. Except maybe Paul Reubens. I bet he kept his costume.

The font I chose is called Stop and I fell in love with it instantly, then even more so two days later when I spotted it on Babylon 5. One of the stars of Babylon 5 is one of the main stars of Midnight Madness. It was clearly meant to be. Here's a better look at the font:

Also a shoutout for my friend Dawn, who knew I wanted the tattoos, but didn't know I finally made the appointment, and had this rad patch made for me. Now I want a jean jacket again.

Here's some advice if you want knuckle tattoos.

I also had my thumbs tattooed the same day and the one on my right thumb had the hardest time healing of any tattoo I've ever had. You know how easy it is to forget an injury on the thumb of your dominant hand? And absentmindedly reach into the pocket of your walking shorts that has a zipper closing? Ouch. I didn't think a Saniderm bandage would work in that spot but eventually gave in and tried, and wouldn't you know it? Five days of bandaging did wonders.

The reason I'm not sharing an image of that one yet is that one of the colors isn't showing up right because of the injury. If my skin's really wet, you can see it. Or if I press down on it and the blood runs out. So I'll eventually share a photo but it might have to be after a touchup. We went into the knuckle tattoos session knowing they'd definitely need a touchup in a few months, and Jimmy's looking forward to touching up my back that day. It'll be nice to do that but I'm not looking forward to the session.

My knuckles took so long that I have another tattoo to share. It's based on the notorious Star Trek TNG episode Sub Rosa. If you haven't seen it, please do. It's hilarious.

Sub Rosa tattoo by Clinton Wiltse

It's by Clinton, the same guy who did my Threshold tattoo. I went to him specifically because he knocked that one out of the park. I came to terms with the concept that she's materializing from the mist and that's why you don't see one of her feet, but people on the Star Trek Shitposting group on Facebook hate it. Well, one person liked my explanation that she's materializing in "the sex fog." Ha. Nobody seems to notice or care that you can't see her pelvis, but the foot? A bridge too far. I talked about it the day of and he's willing to add the foot if I want him to, but I have a good idea for a couple of bad Trek gap fillers and I think one of them would be a better use of the space. And then the tattoo could bother people forever!

EDITED TO ADD (OMG OMG OMG)
