I spent a few days scanning hundreds of family photos because a lot of relatives are gathering to remember my dad soon and I wanted them to be available for that. People talk about how boring and tedious scanning photos is, but they never mention how hard it can be emotionally.

You'd think the hardest part would be scanning photos of people you hate because you don't think it's fair to deprive other people of the chance to see them. But those are just annoying. And it's a chance to do some goal setting. I want to always be kind to people and adapt to the changing world I live in instead of stubbornly digging my heels in.

It's harder to revisit those few photos you have of people you loved who are gone. To remember how they hated their photo taken because they weren't happy with their appearance and even died trying to change it. Meanwhile you get to scan ten times as many baby pictures of a random cousin just because they're the same age as your brother.

The thing I regret not doing is asking my dad to tell me stories about myself. He pretty much never stopped talking but it was always about other people. Did he tell other people stories about me?
