All out of steam
Aug. 2nd, 2023 04:36 amI got the day wrong in my last post, the text about the lap pool came Wednesday, July 19. So now it's been two weeks. The pool looked a lot better Monday but it's still not ready. Another text came Friday letting us know the steam room is also out of order. Ours is actually the only location with a steam room, the others have a sauna only and I think one has no type of hot room at all. And in those other locations they have double the maintenance worries because saunas are in the locker rooms rather than part of the pool deck like we have.
The lap pool woes got me thinking about how I used to like to do laps sometimes, but only with a snorkel. And it made me want to try it again, but I haven't been able to find my snorkel for a few years now. No clue where it could have gone off to. So I ordered a new one and it's here, but I think I'll wait until our lap pool is fixed even if I go to another location to use theirs. After all, each other location is likely to be packed with people from my location. If I'm patient, I can probably swim laps at Mukilteo in a lane all to myself.
Another thing I'd like to do there soon is some personal training. Specifically strength training. I'd like to work with a trainer for a while to learn some things I can do on my own later when I can't go to the pool during tattoo/piercing healing times. I looked at the bios of trainers at a few facilities and there's one there who I'd like to meet up with if his hours work well. He's older and that's why I'm interested; I'd like a trainer I can relate to instead of one who's young enough to be my kid.
There are group strength classes of course, but when I tried one a while back the instructor pushed me way too hard. I couldn't move for two weeks. I really take issue with the fact that she saw the amount of weight I put on my bar and made me double it. Shouldn't I be the one to judge how much I'm supposed to lift over the course of an hour? But when there are 30+ people there's not a lot of time for discussion.
I came very close to joining up a small group personal training session, 10 lessons on the Tuesdays and Thursdays in August. It's a dumbbell core strength class, though, and I want something more general. And I'd have had to miss one of the sessions because of a concert in Seattle coming up. And I have a pretty major piercing happening as soon as the jewelry we ordered for it comes in, and I'll get a big tattoo while I'm healing that. So there's a good chance I might not want to do anything at all for a spell!
