Saturday surprise
Jun. 23rd, 2024 05:16 pmA few months ago I happened to catch an ad for a show at the Neptune Theater in Seattle, Michael Carbonaro: Lies on Stage. If you've never seen The Carbonaro Effect, it's one of the best shows ever. It's a hidden camera prank show made even better with his incredible magic tricks. And I absolutely love the way he talks to people. It's not just sleight of hand, it's sleight of speech, too.
I asked Garrett if he trusted me to plan a surprise show and he said yes, so I got the tickets and told him which venue it was so he could choose where to stay. We ended up at The Graduate, which is caddy corner from the theater, and a really cool hotel! Unfortunately they messed up our reservation for a double queen room and we ended up with two king rooms for the price of one. Thankfully they were right next to each other on the 9th floor, and they had toothpaste, which we needed since we only brought one tube. If you're a fan of the movie Singles, the rooms have a fun surprise on the wall.

Garrett showed amazing restraint and never looked up who we were seeing all this time. He didn't know until we drove up to that intersection and he saw Carbonaro's name on the marquee.

The show was super fun and we had a nice lunch at Big Time Brewery beforehand as well as dinner and drinks at the hotel's rooftop bar. I was surprised how many places on The Ave weren't open yet when we ended up at Big Time. It's the university! Where's the day drinking? I of course got bar mirror selfies for the first time in ages.

Tuvix is boarded right now and they don't do Sunday pickups or dropoffs, so I'm picking him up tomorrow. We miss him tonight but thankfully he always has a great time while boarded and we get goofy pictures.
