Close call

In an ideal world, I'd have two teaching shifts each week at the Mukilteo YMCA and beforehand, I'd do two eGym strength training circuits. It feels like a very realistic goal since I've done my two circuits before going to class many times. It's true that teaching is a lot more work than going to class, but I want to put in the work and reap the benefits.

I subbed in Mukilteo and was going to try that for the first time, but couldn't because I left my eGym fob in my "I'm going to class" bag instead of moving it to my "I'm teaching" bag. That left me with an hour to kill before teaching, so I walked.

The new episode of the Text Me Back podcast is something I've already heard because I'm a member of their Patreon, so I decided to listen to my class playlist. It included a long-time favorite song, "Jet Airliner" by Steve Miller Band.

If you advance to three minutes in and listen for a bit, you might be caught by surprise just like I was. I've known this song forever and I've never heard him saying anything other than, "I don't want to get caught up in any of that funky kicks going down in the city." But he very clearly says "shit" instead of "kicks" in that version! And I very nearly played it for a whole lot of people at a loud volume.

They don't make it easy, but it's possible to update a playlist on the YouTube phone app and then eventually get that change to reflect in the version of your playlist on the YouTube Music app. It's really hard to know what magic order of pulling down to refresh the main page or the playlist or just killing the app and starting over makes it happen, but it happens eventually.

But I swear that because there are multiple ways to access a playlist in the app, multiple states of that playlist can exist at once. I know I had a version with the right version, but when I played it for class, the song just wasn't there. Which I guess is better than the "dirty" version being there instead. I handled it by making everyone listen to one of the songs twice, and chose the one I was most excited to play for the first time.

INXS also made their debut and I'm looking forward to using them. I've also played "It Can Happen" by Yes many times but I think "Leave It" needs to close out the main portion of the workout soon.
