Old M-Th routine:
5:15  Wake up
5:30  Leave
5:33  Arrive at first bus stop around the corner, check emails until bus arrives
5:43  First bus arrives
5:48  Arrive at transfer point, cross street, catch second bus, arrive near work, walk about half a mile to the office

What I tried the last two days:
5:10  Wake up
5:25  Leave, walking to where I catch the second bus, about .8 miles, with plenty of time to spare
5:48  Catch second bus, arrive near work, walk about half a mile to the office

By getting up five minutes earlier, I was able to ensure that I'd probably never be late for the second bus, and also got even more walking in. I decided to do a test today, so I stepped away from the laptop at 9am and got in the shower, doing my normal morning routine, and leaving on foot. Instead of walking West toward downtown, I went North past Volunteer Park, down Galer, and through Interlaken Park. I was a bit disoriented coming out of the park, going East when I should have headed North. When all was said and done, I arrived at the bus stop after the one where I normally get on at 10:02.

My bus gets there at 5:53, though, and I got there sweaty. If I don't get a wild hair during the weekend, on Monday I'll try getting up at 4:50, brushing my teeth, and heading out. We have showers at work with towels and soap and shampoo, so I'll just be sure to wear the previous day's shirt while I walk, and bring a fresh shirt, deodorant, and hair product with me.

4:50  Wake up
4:55  Leave
5:50  Arrive with at least a couple of minutes to spare

I used to walk about 1.5 miles to work each day and really loved it, especially since it was heading down into Seattle and enjoying the awesome morning views. Commuting by bus has been great for my brain, since I read every day both directions, which is a lot more than I've ever read in my entire life. I've always hated giving up walking to work, though. I've actually thought about trying that walk down to the further stop before, but it just didn't seem realistic. Walking down to the closer one the last couple of days made me really want to, though. It's a nice little walk, but not far enough to feel like it's worth much. The new route is 2.2 miles, which sounds like an excellent start to the day.

I feel very unscientific for not making a note of the time that I left the house today. I figured I'd need to take a shower at home no matter what, but doing it at work sounds like a better idea. Plus I won't wake Garrett up any more.

And since I can, I'ma toot my own horn for being able to get ready so fast. I think that's an awesome trait. Bed to bus stop in 20ish minutes is impressive IIDSSM.

I wake up about 15-20 minutes before I need to leave, as well. I shower, brush my teeth, brush my hair, throw on clothes, feed/water the cats, and I'm gone. Haha.

It makes me insane when people take forever to get ready. My ex (a bald man) took NINETY MINUTES to get ready when he was here on vacation visiting me. So I'd wake up, wait like two hours for him to wake up, then wait another 90 minutes before we'd finally leave the house.

If I could do it all again, I'd get up, get ready, leave and have a bagel and coffee somewhere, go for a walk, and then maybe come back. That would probably all occur before he woke up but at least I'd have eaten something. :)

That is seriously too early!

I wake up around 8 and leave the apartment around 9:20 or so, but that gives me time to eat breakfast, read some internet, and play with Ella every morning.

In the case of my alarm not going off, I can be out the door in ten minutes.

There'd be no point in me trying to have a schedule like that. If Sam didn't get me up, the sun would. But who are we kidding, it'd be Sam.

The guy I'm seeing likes to wake up an hour, at least, before he has to leave, two if he doesn't work 'til 9. He likes to take his time, have coffee, make breakfast, watch the news/last night's Daily Show... So I do all that when I stay at his place during the week, but I still get up a lot later than he does (about 30 min to 45 min before I have to leave), but that's really only because I like morning sex, lol.

I would rather stay up later at night, and get ready in a hurry and wake up during my 20-30 min drive. I really dislike mornings!

But yeah, I don't get people who take FOREVER to get ready. I don't mean just chillin' because they like to do that in the morning, but actually taking forever to get ready. 30 minute showers? Really? I can do mine in 7 minutes flat and I wash everything!

I should have been more specific. My ex took 90 minutes just to get up, shower, shave, brush his teeth, and get dressed. No breakfast or anything involved.

I'm like you. 5am is WAY TOO EARLY. I used to have to work at 7am and it was horrible. I don't have to work until 9, now. I have to leave by 8:20 or so. I'm up at 8 at the earliest, lol.

Yeah, I figured that's what you meant, and I also think that's fucking crazy.

This is me: I get up. Go to the bathroom which takes 2 or so minutes. Jump in the shower, about 5-7 minutes (shaving takes a bit longer). Brush my teeth and hair, and throw on clothes, about 5 minutes total. Feed the cats, about a minute. Then I'm GONE. lol.

I can pretty much work whenever I want, but I can't take crowded, slow buses, so I'd much rather just get the whole day overwith and have some more time after work.

Might be different if I lived by the start of the bus route. During normal commute hours it gets completely packed, like every seat and the entire aisle, and I can get on at the last or second to last stop. Ugh.

i can't imagine having to shower at work. when i walk out the door, i need to be clean and fresh. then again, i drive.

i also can't stand people who mill around before leaving. i wake up at 6, eat breakfast, shower, internet for a bit, then leave at 7 (705 at the latest).

20 mins from bed to bus is pretty good. does that include breakfast?

No, I eat breakfast at work. Have for a long time.

I'm like you - I like to eat breakfast, read some internet, play with the cats before I leave. If I wake up late, though, I can often rush off quickly. Although I do have to slap some makeup on. Nothing complicated - just trying to look human. Actually, I never do complicated makeup. Even when I'm going out. I never learned how!

I can't go without breakfast! Even if I do nothing else, I need at least a bowl of cereal or toast or something.

I am the king of the 2 minute shower. I can do it during a commercial break!
