Just wanted to explore my options with the new phone, So I'm writing this with a handwriting recognition app. It's working quite well, especially considering how bad my penmanship is and how much I hate writing by hand. If You want to try it, it's called MyScript Stylus.

Dunno if it's in your budget, but you might check out the new Galaxy Gear smartwatch that works with it. I still really like mine (but it's a Sony SmartWatch).

I got the S4 Active because I wanted a waterproof phone. I can get completely soaked on my walks and wanted to be able to still use my phone without worrying about it. I love it!

You can use your finger. Stylus is way easier.
