There was another version of this post that had to be deleted because I left out an important poll option.[Poll #1056322]

I don't really boil water for coffee, as I use a coffee maker and don't like instant coffee, but I do drink tea, so I need to boil water for that.

I did worry that I would alienate people who don't use a french press so I kept the wording neutral.

I currently don't have a kettle but have used one in the past. I think the reason the front right works for me and others is because it's easier to reach, plus putting the kettle on the right burner is practical if you're right handed because, for some reason, most ranges are on the left end of a kitchen setup, so putting it there means having it closer to the counter where your cup would be.

I just put way more thought into this than I should have.

The reason that I always use the rear burners is that I had it hammered into my head early on that the front burners are dangerous. I only use the front ones if it's a large pan (left front is bigger than the others) or if I'm using more than two burners.

I'm surprised you didn't say "pervert" instead.

Hmm, interesting. I can see the logic in that: if you have a pot of something, there's more of a risk of spilling on your legs and feet than if it were on the back burners.

I like to rotate.
According to Feng Sh-whatever you should use all 4 equally or something.
That's what I read on the internet and I believe it!

I pretended my electric tea kettle was broken, given that was not an option.

I have an amazing electric water boiler and haven't heated water on the stove for tea or anything else that requires adding water since high school.

Otherwise I use the right back, because it's a bigger burner and I'm usually boiling water in a big pot for pasta or corn on the cob or something.

actually I have an electric kettle that I use, but the last option was the closest one. when I didn't have it though, I used a variety of burners - all the small ones. howdy!

Oh if you choose the "I don't have a 2x2 layout" option you'll be the only one so far! Click it!

2x2 is a crazy amount of cooking power

I used to not have a 2x2 layout so it was the front left burner. Now we have a large rangetop/oven.

We use the front left because it is the SUPER BURNER with, like, 3 rows of flaming hotness. It'll bring the kettle to a boil in under 2 minutes.
