Crazy sky

Just went out to put a Netflix DVD in the mail and the sky looked really cool. I felt like I was in Poltergeist.



Here's why our neighbor keeps giving us apples. His trees are doing quite well. I used to want fruit trees of our own, but I find this very intimidating. People in Seattle can at least take advantage of and donate to City Fruit.

I grew up with 3 apple trees in our family backyard - every autumn we had to spend several days picking apples and often ended up with a porch 1/3rd stacked with boxes of them. My Mom reduced this by making loads of pie filling, apple sauce, etc. and giving away boxes to friends and neighbors. But yeah - some types of apple trees produce a lot! It's definitely a commitment. Although the last few years they lived there the town started to experience a black bear problem - and the black bears ate most of the apples, so I guess it depends on whether you a) have bears and b) how much you want to pick and can.

And by "we" I mean my Mom, my sister and I. So that's 1.75 people picking for 3 days (my sister and I only picked about 3/4ths together of what my Mom would have picked because she has insane energy and grew up on a farm).
