2026 QOTD March 1-5
Feb. 26th, 2026 11:53 amFull list of March questions here.
1. Since 1990, Clean Up Australia Limited has sponsored a yearly Clean Up Australia Day. Have you ever taken part in a ‘clean up’ initiative where you live?
I can't say I have. The only ones I ever hear about are the ones at local waterways and end up being boat-based. If there was a land one I'd be inclined to join in.
2. My mother taught me to get rid of hiccups by holding my breath and then swallowing three times. It works most of the time! How do you get rid of hiccups?
I have an incredible hiccup cure that I learned at age 17 in Germany. You'll need to be standing up with plenty of room in front of you. Take a cup of water about half full and put your mouth on the side of the glass opposite where you normally would. That's why it can't be full, because your chin will go in the glass. Lean forward far enough so you can drink the water. Voila! Hiccups gone.
3. If you visit somewhere special, do you buy a small memento to bring home (such as a fridge magnet, keyring, ornament or something else)?
We collect fridge magnets and also say that's what we want if anyone is traveling and wants to bring something. Every once in a while I'll find other fun things and always check the ones that have people's names. I have an incredible solar-powered keychain that flashes my name that Dawn got me! I prefer to drink coffee from 15-oz cups so if I see one I like, I'll grab it. I have plenty of those so I'd never ask anyone to bring me one.
4. Have you ever been in a road traffic accident (either as a driver, pedestrian or on a bike)?
One time leaving high school some guys tapped my back bumper. I didn't notice any damage but one of them was definitely worse for the wear after hitting his forehead on the windshield. One would think it was a bad performance for sympathy, but I remember the windshield being cracked on that side. Pretty sure they were stoned.
Another time, a guy named Wands hit the gas when he noticed the cars in the left-turn lane next to us moving. Unfortunately only the arrow was green and I was in front of him and he rear-ended me. The insurance agent who answered my call about it was extremely unimpressed by him.
There's probably one or two more but the only other one I remember was in late 2024 when someone ran a red light and broadsided me, totaling Venga, my cargo van. It was a bummer but I ended up with a pretty cool Kia Soul I named Jenny.
5. How many local birds can you name?
At the moment, none. I should get some fresh bird seed Monday and then clean and fill the BirdBuddy bird feeder Garrett got me a while back. Then some will visit and the app will tell me what kind of birds they are. Oh, come to think of it, I see Steller's jays around. I just went to the BirdBuddy app expecting the previous history to be there, but it's not. Weird.
