Canned tamales, originally uploaded by christopher575.

I had no idea such a thing exists.

Weird that you'd never seen them. You'll want to forget they existed after eating one.

People will put anything in cans. Fortunately, several of them have been withdrawn when other people were smart enough not to buy them.

I was going to ask "what fresh hell is this?", but it's canned.
Ugh.

I've never had the Nelly brand, but I eat Hormel tamales once in a while.

I know full well that they are nothing like a real tamale. But they still taste good to me, in a guilty-pleasure way. Kind of like how Spaghetti-O's are nothing like real Italian food, but they're tasty and comforting in their own way.

I like the hot and spicy variety from Hormel. And I eat them cold, straight out of the can. (Well, I have to peel the waxed paper off them and scrape off the red, waxy clots of fat, but anyway...)

Ya know what's good? Get a cupcake baking tray thingie, then get some bread slices (I put garlic butter on mine) and scrunch them into the baking tray like little bowls...then fill the "little bowls" with Spaghetti-O's...then bake for about 15 minutes.

It's like little Spaghetti-O quiches!!!!

That sounds really good in a strange Sandra Lee (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_sh) kind of way.
