christopher575: A model on The Price is Right showing that the contestant picked the right price, $575 (Default)

Thank you for being a friend, originally uploaded by evil robot 6.

It's no secret that I'm pretty sick of the blogosphere's fascination with celebrity death. Especially because people always act like it's tragic when someone who's had a long, wonderful life and career dies. I mean seriously, none of us will have a life that is one percent as interesting as Bea Arthur's. But everyone feels like they have to mention it or they're dicks. Well, it's not true. You don't have to say something.

Unless you really mean it.

If they're worth it, you'll go straight to your local karaoke dive and sing the appropriate theme song.

EDIT:
Please learn how to celebrate life. Everyone's got the mourning thing down pat.

I'm personally surprised Bea Arthur was still alive. People today really do live longer!

You may live to be 200 or 1,000 years old!

I was wondering why there were so many LJ posts about her today.

At least I had a vague notion of who she was. She was in the "Star Wars Christmas Special", right?

I'll go back to my cave now.

Oh please. You probably acted out Golden Girls scenes in your mom's muumuus.

Don't be absurd.

It was my father's muumuus.

how about this?

She was a cunt. Many waiter's I've known over the years that had the displeasure, also claimed that she didn't tip.

86'd at 86 is pretty damn good. For someone who doesn't tip.

I wasn't that sad at first because she did live so long and she had been looking pretty frail lately, but NGL, I did get misty when I went back and watched her sing goodbye to the Star Wars cantina. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IURi2X_1t-I&feature=player_embedded) The Christmas Special is pretty much the only Star Wars media I will willingly sit through.

I only mention the ones I actually like, and I don't make a HUGE deal about it.

I think I was mostly caught off guard. I was just thinking about a prank we pulled on a friend's teenager that involved a picture of a naked Bea when I logged on and read that she'd died.

I'M GONNA GO CELEBRATE MY LIFE NOW, K? ARE YOU HAPPY?!?!?!

I think a respectful but brief mention is appropriate just for journal posterity but not a drag-out "throw yourself on her grave" kind of thing.

Her career was fascinating to read about, though. I had no idea she was so involved in theater productions.

I've never been to karaoke, but I'll remember to sing a tribute if I ever go. :-)

If Death has him on speed dial, do you think B has made it into his Fave Five?

I just posted the fact that she was dead, in case anyone else hadn't heard. No one else on my friend's list had mentioned it yet. And LJ is my go-to source for breaking news!

I think part of it is the fact that we won't have any new pieces from her.

That IS pretty tragic.
