Person needs to speak to someone who has information about a crime they read about in the newspaper archives while trying to figure out why their friends are dying. This person is either in a nursing home or a mental institution, and the staff never objects to the visit, even though they aren't related.

The old person in the nursing home or mental institution will die as soon as the main character leaves.

if the main charachter is in high school, they either have no car, or have a car that's going to fall apart any moment.

highschool students into metal drive extra-tiny cars from the mid70s, typically pintos, gremlins, or datsuns. NEVER a truck.
