It's funny how I ended up messing up my phone. I reset mine recently and it was working better than ever, so I was actually trying to invest in keeping it longer by buying a new keyboard for it. The one that comes with the color I chose has a terrible issue with glare. When I was at a T-Mobile store with cattycritic, the guy said "We don't recommend the bronze color, the keys are really hard to see." I was like, yup, I have one right here and I wish it was black. So I figured, hey, I'll make mine black!

If you see an item description on ebay and they tell you it comes with easy-to-follow instructions, you should probably try to find those instructions on the internet and see if you think they sound easy. I'm sure a lot of people love teeny tiny cables and stickers and screws, but I'm just not one of those people. I didn't get my keyboard changed out but decided I'd reached my level of comfort and gave up. Looks like I should have given up sooner, because I couldn't get a signal after putting it back together. And I actually had to try several times, because the touchscreen didn't work.

It's just funny to me that I wanted to keep my phone for a long time and that the steps I took to keep it useful for me backfired. Luckily I've been very good with my money lately so a trip to the T-Mobile store today won't be too painful.

Even though I really hate phones without keyboards, I would have maybe gotten the Nexus One if I could get it for the upgrade price. But since I can't, it's over 500 bucks.

I'll probably have a black slide in a couple hours.

yeah, nexus seems like its really great, but the price sucks and it is retarded that they are screwing over existing customers on the upgrade pricing. :\

The one concern I have with the Slide: no trackball!

You know how hard it was for me to give up cursor keys...

the only crappy part, i'd think, is that it is touch sensitive -- meaning before with the trackball you could use it with gloves on and the touchpad you cant.

also: you will have to report back as to how you like it!

it doesnt have all the high end specs and doesnt seem to warrant the price (in my mind, being that i'd have to pay full price.. meh!) but everyone keeps swearing it is fast/optimized or something.

Trackpad is worthless. It's too easy to accidentally "push" to select.

Writing this from my bb9700 with optical trackpad
took a little bit to get used to it but less moving parts is better imho
I love it
The optical pad on the mytouch slide is a bit different but you can adjust sensitivity and stuff. It is a sweet phone.

I had the G1 for a while and never would have left it. Except then work told me they would pay for my cell phone, everything unlimited. Great deal, except they are with verizon, so I got the Storm about a year ago. If I can't convince them I need a new android (unlikely, since we're partners with Bing now), I'm just going to carry two cell phones and get it myself.

Yeah, I was at a meeting yesterday with Vulcan's head of Technology, and he was showing us the new Incredible. He couldn't really hide his boner for his phone, it was sort of funny.
