It's so much work making an elaborate meal like this, but it's fun, too.

I have had banh xeo and I enjoyed it, but I have to wonder why it's always so oily. Is that typical?

I'll definitely try bun bo hue. The only soups I've ever had were pho (of course) and another one that was more like a stew. I can't think of the name right now.

I did go to one Vietnamese restaurant when I was in NYC, and you're right, I wasn't impressed. Our restaurants here are amazing. I doubt there's another American city with Vietnamese that's any better.

Back when I worked an evening job I would eat in a Vietnamese restaurant every day for lunch, and also grab some banh mi to take to work with me for dinner. That was a wonderful year of food. During that time, I reviewed a lot of the restaurants, you can see them if you click the "vietnamese food" tag on my lj.

We can definitely be friends, but I'm already getting married in a few weeks. :)

I used to live in Houston, and the VNmese food there is top 3 in the country, neck to neck with Orange County, CA. Some say it's better in Houston. Now that I'm in NY, I miss VNmese food so much!

I'll be sure to check out Seattle's VNmese food (and I'm sure other cuisines) via your LJ tag. Thanks. I hope to visit Seattle soon should I go to Asia for business next year. I'd rather pit stop in Seattle than SF because I haven't been there in a long time. I think it's a beautiful and cosmopolitan city.

What do you do there? I'm a designer in NYC.

I was teasing about getting married. Come on! Would people in America stop taking everything so literally? I'm a big flirt - esp. when I like :-.) We make friends! Yes.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! who's the lucky guy?

Cheers :-.)

I help manage a very large advertising network. My part of the job is to enact media plans, test and upload the ads, and schedule them. There's also some silly reporting that goes along with all that.

I'm almost tempted to say 3-vvay. Just kidding! :-.D

Congratulations!

I'd love to hear more about your job. Keep in touch.

Cheers!

OILY BANH XEO: If the oil isn't fresh (kept overnight because some say it tastes better with older oil) then it's oily tasting. But the younger generation has evolved it to a much healthier dish. VNmese food can be very healthy. But I'm afraid like everything else in the US, when it becomes fast food, that health factor is lost.

I don't like oily food at all.
