I got a Kindle a few weeks ago, and I love it. It has been a great way to pass the time on the bus to and from work, and the fact that I can instantly get a new book the moment I'm done reading one has been great. I still order real books when they are cheaper than the Kindle version, but the problem with real books is that I always finish one and forget to take it out of my backpack and put the next one in, yadda yadda. It's a fantastic device and I recommend them for anyone who loves to read.

I'm glad to hear this. I'm thinking of buying one for the bf for his birthday. Do you have the one with 3G or just wifi? What are the different options? The bf is kinda tech phobic, but I think he may like this.

I got the 3G version, which is what allows me to instantly get a new book anywhere rather than go find wi-fi or plug it in via USB. It's an extra $50 for permanent 3G, which I figure is also handy because it has a web browser that isn't great, but it could be used in a pinch.

The only real options are that you can get the 3G version in white, and there's a bigger version that's nearly $400.

Do be aware, they may eventually be free:

November is a long way off though. :)

That is super cool and I think it is a darn good investment for you. I've been thinking about getting one down the road since Emily got her Sony a couple years ago, and I think this sealed it.

It has been great so far. I had to drive to work on Thursday because I had paperwork to fill out in another building three miles from my office, and it was weird not having any time to read on the way to or from work.

I had a Kindle for a couple of months but never used it. I liked it and it looked great and was easy to use but l guess i wanted it to be able to do more? I don't know why. I know it's designed to do one thing really. I thought they were really great though.

It is funny you post this because i actually ended up getting a used iPad from eBay just yesterday. I figured with the new ones being announced that people would be trying to unload theirs. So i got a 16 gb wifi only. It will come in handy for my SF trip in a couple of weeks and i won't have to lug around my heavy MacBook. I am really liking it so far. I used it to leave this comment and typing on it isn't terrible. Just need more practice I guess. :)

I think the main draw for me with the Kindle is the display. There are lots of tablets and ereaders and stuff but I didn't really want something with a regular screen.

Next time I feel money burning a hole in my pocket, I might get a used iPad just to have one. You know, a bigger screen to play Angry Birds on.

Yeah I liked the e-ink display. That's an interesting article about them being free eventually. I may end up getting one again! Who knows. I buy and sell technology a lot, as you may know.

I got a pretty good deal with the iPad. I'm tempted to try Angry Birds on it because on the iPhone it's hard to get past some levels. But World of Goo is awesome on it. It's a game I had on the Wii but, I sold the Wii a couple of months ago because it was gathering dust. It was good on the Wii, but on the iPad it's 10 times better at 2/3 the price.

I couldn't get the video link to embed.

Oh and one more thing, which is completely nerdy but awesome, but I learned about it after I got the iPad. The iPad version of Scrabble has a party mode where if you are playing it with other people who each have their own iPhones, your iPhone becomes the tile rack and you can flick the tiles on to the iPad from the iPhone. I think I had a nerdgasm when I heard this.

I want one. How is it in low light? Does it cause headaches?

It's just like reading a book. The display isn't lit, so it's very different from reading on the screen of a computer. You'll have to check mine out sometime.

Ah, but do you remember me asking if I could steal that terrific icon from you? It is still one of my favorites.

I havea kindle app on my phone which actually keeps me very happy! I even read books in the tub with it, which I do with real paper books- but I don't get all the pages wet and stuck together. I am VERY CAREFUL not to drop it in the water :P

I've had my kindle for about a year now and still love it to bits. I keep trying to get all my friends and workmates to buy one.
