Neither. That's kind of the point. I'm "versatile" if that's what you're trying to ask.
Seattle Gay News? Why isn't there a Seattle Straight News?
There is. It's called the Times. And the P-I. Don't forget USA Today, The New York Times, and pretty much every news source. As terrible as the writing is, if you read the SGN once in a while, you'll find a lot of stories that are relevant to gay life that you won't find outside of the gay press. And if your only view of the gay world is from the mainstream sources, your outlook will be pretty depressing.
Why even have gay bars? What's the point?
Because if I introduce myself to men in a regular bar, I'm likely to get my ass kicked. Straight people take it for granted that they can hit on people of the opposite sex and nobody will hurt them.
Why do you even care about gay marriage? Can't you just live together?
Sure. In fact, let's just abolish marriage altogether. No? So, you're good enough for it, but we aren't. I see. I could go on and on about all of the civil rights which queers are denied in this country, but that's been done for me already. One example I noticed myself back in Albuquerque was that apartment complexes could effectively screen out gay couples by allowing married couples who applied for apartments to combine their income to meet the income/rent ratio requirement, but if the couple was unmarried, each person had to make the required amount on his own. And I've been lucky that all of my employers in Seattle offered domestic partner benefits, but since I don't share a residence with my partner (of over ten years), he's out of luck.
