When I was a kid, I had a very hard time explaining to my family that I always saw spots. I told them I thought there might be tiny leprechauns with colored lights everywhere. I'm sure they thought I was insane.

My entire field of vision is filled with them whether my eyes are open or closed. There are red ones, blue ones, and slightly larger yellow ones surrounded by smaller yellow ones that move toward me and then away. They're easier to see in the dark, but I can see them no matter how bright it is.

Since they are the primary colors, I have always figured that there's something wrong with either my eyes, or my brain just doesn't process colors properly. Another theory is that everybody sees them but I'm just one of the unlucky few who notices them.

I hadn't thought about them in a while, but my eyes are really bleary from two nights of heavy drinking. Do any of you see spots like this? They're tiny. Picture the head of a pin poking through a surface 20 feet away. Teensy.

And no, it's not because of drugs or alcohol. I started trying to explain them as soon as I could form sentences.
