When I was a kid, I had a very hard time explaining to my family that I always saw spots. I told them I thought there might be tiny leprechauns with colored lights everywhere. I'm sure they thought I was insane.

My entire field of vision is filled with them whether my eyes are open or closed. There are red ones, blue ones, and slightly larger yellow ones surrounded by smaller yellow ones that move toward me and then away. They're easier to see in the dark, but I can see them no matter how bright it is.

Since they are the primary colors, I have always figured that there's something wrong with either my eyes, or my brain just doesn't process colors properly. Another theory is that everybody sees them but I'm just one of the unlucky few who notices them.

I hadn't thought about them in a while, but my eyes are really bleary from two nights of heavy drinking. Do any of you see spots like this? They're tiny. Picture the head of a pin poking through a surface 20 feet away. Teensy.

And no, it's not because of drugs or alcohol. I started trying to explain them as soon as I could form sentences.

There are a lot of reasons for them. Excess proteins, age, retinal damage, etc.

I don't have them as often as I used to, and the doctor thinks it's likely because my level of eye pressure has been reduced.

I wonder if they are an indicator of my homosexuality.

Also of interest, I have single transverse palmar creases (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simian_crease).

Huh. It is a characteristic of many syndromes. Mostly Awesome opossum syndrome.

I have 3 lines, the only one with good flow being my head line. Of course. yay logic.

i know what youre talking about. i used to see them a lot more when i was a kid, but i still do sometimes now if im really tired or headache-y or something. and yes, much easier/more commonly seen in the dark. at one point i read something about them, but strangely i cant recall at all now what it said.

i used to call mine "ants" because they were red dots that would chase eachother around in my field of vision. :p i would see other colors too but red most often.

I have "floaters". Most people have them but do not notice. I actually can see the bacteria on my eyes. I used to ask my parents about them and they, of course, thought I was insane.

When I finally read something about this later in life, it all made sense. I guess because of my screwed up vision, I am one of the lucky few who can focus on them. They're little shapes that float across my field of vision. Bizarre.

Oh I can also totally see my floaters. What's fun is when one is drifting down, you can toss it back up by moving your eye.

actually, everyone has them. They're "remnants of embryonic structures in the vitreous humour", to quote wiki. They tend to increase as you get older, too, as natural deposits inside the vitreous humour accumulate. Yay!

I don't think I see the spots that C is talking about but I definitely have floaters and can see the bacteria on my cornias...why haven't we talked about this before Al? We could have been insane together. Oh and my vision is 20/20 fwiw.

I only notice them when I don't have my glasses on. I guess my eyes focus differently?

yup! Mine are more "invasive" (can't ignore) when I'm excessively dehydrated/hungover.

I think I know what you are talking about, and I think it is more a function of the resolution of the eye, I think you are seeing a sort of pixilization of your visual world. I have always tripped out on that .. usually primarily when I am bored or tired.. otherwise I tune them out. They are tinsy almost like static on most things you look at?? ?? Am I anywhere near the mark?
