I went to college from 1992-1997, the earlier part of which was the great alternative revolution. Really, all that meant to me was that good music was on the radio and MTV all the time instead of just on public access for two hours once a week and on 120 Minutes which I rarely was able to stay awake for.

I heard this song in a department store here in India on Sunday night and was so glad I did. The band's name occasionally pops into my head but I hadn't actually thought of the song in a while. I saw Letters to Cleo in concert once, but it's been long enough that my only clear memory of the show is when some guys in the audience got into a fight and the lead singer asked, "What are you doing?!?!" really loudly in the middle of a song. I was also surprised to remember that this concert took place at the Sunshine Music Theater instead of at Edgefest. The year that I went, it was obvious that the Edge's playlist was engineered to make everyone want to go to the event. So it was pretty much every band that was popular at the time except Letters to Cleo, I guess because they had a huge tour of their own.

I just noticed that the video says the music was included on a Melrose Place soundtrack. I guess that's the level of success they achieved that the others (Deadeye Dick, Moonpools and Caterpillars, Parade of Losers, etc) didn't quite manage.

I'm quite proud of the fact that I was able to remember that she's saying "the comfort of the knowledge of a rise above the sky above could never parallel the challenge of an acquisition in the here and now" without looking at a lyrics site.

Ok, I have to quit thinking about the early to mid-90s now. I can't go back, and I can't get any do-overs.

Alcohol

Damn, I miss alcohol. I've only had one chance to drink since I got here a week ago. It was Sunday night at the mall. I had a foamy pina colada (weak) and a peach shot in a test tube (strong) to start. Then I had a screwdriver, which was too warm. We asked for ice, which is probably why Jason and I were both sick last night. He's still not doing too well.

We moved on to Bacardi Breezers figuring it would be impossible for them to be weak. Then I ordered another one, and Jason ordered a Corona. They accidentally brought him another Breezer, and didn't listen when he said that wasn't what he wanted. The waiter opened it, and when Jason told them he didn't want it, the waiter carefully popped the cap back on.

I said, "Man, I hope he doesn't go put it back in the cooler to serve to someone else later."

He totally did.

If you order a bottled beverage in a nice place in India, watch them open it, and reject it if it doesn't fizz adequately when they open it.

Anyway, I didn't really catch a good buzz, and the heat in the restaurant made me feel kind of sick. I can't wait to get back to my normal, comfortable alcoholism.

On the way to the office just now, I saw a woman sitting sideways on the back of a motorcycle holding a baby in her lap.
