Week 11, no repeat t-shirt weeks
Jan. 8th, 2022 09:19 amI left for Long Beach a day late, stopping for a nice scrub and massage at our state's more remote Korean Spa. I already knew from word of mouth and online reviews that it was nowhere near as nice as the closer one I normally go to, but I still wanted to check it out. The scrub I got was good and the massage was intense, a great start to a road trip for sure.
The roads were fine most of the way down as soon as I got out of my own neighborhood, except for a stretch I ended up on after stopping for gas. I never slid around or anything, which I'm grateful for, because it was the kind of area with lots of ditches and drop offs, and few guard rails.
The most harrowing thing about the drive was having to constantly use the sprayers on the windshield wipers because the filthy wet highway mist froze quickly to the windshield. I'm sure people who live cold places are used to that, but here? I didn't even think to fill my wiper fluid before heading out. The auto supply store was one of the first places I visited when I got to my destination.
Funnily enough, when I stopped for gas, I couldn't even wash my windows and windshield because the squeegees were frozen solid into their buckets.
With only one windy, cold night in Long Beach, I didn't really do anything other than grab some dinner from a place across the parking lot. The next morning, I texted Garrett from a parking lot while I ate my bagel and latte I got from a drive thru to let him know I was heading back. Turns out there was a lot more snow overnight and he said I should stay another night somewhere. So I went back to the Airbnb to hang out until checkout time and got on Priceline to find a room.
Meanwhile, our next door neighbor texted me some photos of our house. It was definitely a bummer to see because we worked really hard to clear the driveway and now Garrett would do it all again.

It's the slow season for beach towns so I got an amazing deal on a room in Seaside, Oregon at a hotel with a pool. It wasn't a great pool and and the hot tub could have been way hotter, but it was nice to get in a pool again for the first time I left the YMCA in early 2020. You know what's weird? Hanging around in the pool wearing a mask.
I had a pretty good scallop dinner a couple of blocks from the hotel and again, due to the cold and wind, spent the rest of the time relaxing in my room. Oh I did stop several places during the trip to try to find ice melt, but snow had already been through that area so they ran out before we did.
It took several days after the driveway and roads were clear before the yard was, but we finally had a ton of rain Friday, and Saturday morning I could finally place Garrett's present in the yard.

If you're not familiar with our yard décor, the peacock is what's new. And when I saw that the tail spins on my friend Kat's Instagram, I knew we had to have it. You can see it spinning on mine. Thankfully, Garrett loves it so the whole adventure wasn't for naught.
This week at work was short. We all had Monday off, and I took yesterday off because we were supposed to fly to Portland for an overnight trip. We canceled it due to the explosive covid surges in the US. Record setting, even! Not worth the risk at all. The three days I had at work were super quiet because a lot of people took the week off on top of what we already weren't working. Only one of my three shirts this week was actually seen by anyone.

Oh speaking of the covid surge, our two-day in-person work meeting this week in Seattle was also canceled. I was going to pay for two hotel nights and a whole lot of parking, so my wallet breathed a huge sigh of relief.
