Denny's memorial service was Tuesday, two weeks to the day after he passed. It was terrible to have to wait so long, but that was the first time that worked for both the funeral home and the cemetery. I have to imagine there are lots of such delays these days. Garrett and Bev went to the viewing the day before, which I skipped because I don't think people should be embalmed and buried. I'll be cremated and my cremains will go in Garrett's plot, but if it wasn't for that, I'd just have them spread somewhere. I'd never tell anyone else not to embalm and bury, but it's just not for me.

I've always viewed the practice as unsustainable, but I think the reason I feel so strongly about it is that my grandmother on my mom's side wanted to be cremated, and her husband didn't respect her wish. A true slap in the face after she spent a very long six months slowly dying of cancer. I never spoke to him again. In fact, grandma was kind of a keystone family member; a lot of people only ever interacted because they loved her. The family split apart completely once she was gone.

Here I am with her in one of my favorite photos ever.

Me and Grandma on her driveway

Anyway, back to this week. We came back from the memorial service and very lovely gathering after to find flowers addressed to me. I'm not sure who all at work was involved but I know Alissa, my closest coworker, was involved heavily. This was such a sweet surprise.

As you can imagine, the latest issue of my zine was delayed by a month or so! But it's ready to order now.

And yesterday I noticed my first grey eyebrow hair.

Someone on tumblr asked if I have grey pubes yet. I haven't seen any, but there are quite a few in my chest hair and the hair on my head, and my beard gets greyer by the day. I'm ready for it all to be completely grey any time. I should probably dye the hair on my head because I have a bottle each of very fancy Viral shampoo and conditioner for maintaining silver dyed hair. But as I've discussed, I'm being a little thriftier so I can still afford tattoos.

Steve definitely wants another cat, so we have to get him one. And I think we've settled on what kind of dog to get. We wanted to just grab a random one from the shelter but Garrett realized it's gotta be a hypoallergenic breed. That narrowed it down to very few choices, but also brought us back to one we previously talked ourselves out of.
