A milestone and a memorial of sorts
Aug. 3rd, 2022 12:41 pmI thought about walking Tuvix out of our neighborhood and up to the park, but that would involve crossing a busy street and he was being extra sniffy. Total exploration mode. So I figured I'd save it for some other day, which is fine; he just had a big adventure yesterday.
It worked out nicely! I guess all that extra sniffing around was productive, because he finally peed and pooped while we were out on the walk. Neither had ever happened before, and the only place he'd used away from home since we got him was his grandma's lawn. Not his dog grandma, but Garrett's mom Bev. He picked excellent spots for both and it was an all around exciting morning. Yes, this is what passes for excitement around here now.
The excitement continued when our crew arrived to install new gutters, clean the skylights, and remove a skylight we hated on the deck. Seriously, why would you put a skylight on a deck? If you want the sun on you, there's the whole yard. It was especially annoying when using the grill, since you'd have two extra sources of heat on a day that was probably already too hot. They're still working, and thankfully Tuvix quit barking at the noises they made within an hour.
Wednesday's when I do some weekly chores since Thursday is garbage and recycling day. I get that stuff ready, water the plants, and clean my CPAP. This week I also took the opportunity to freshen up the planting arrangement, too. Garrett mentioned yesterday that a lot of the vines were pretty sad and leafless, so I got rid of some, moved some around, and trimmed away lots of dead leaves.
We got Steve a nice new tower a few weeks ago and when he died I brought the plants we had to keep outdoors so they wouldn't get eaten by him and Sam inside, and used the tower as a plant stand. This gave me an opportunity to move Garrett's plant that he's had since the '90s across the room where it'll do better. I nursed it back to health and it grew amazing long vines, but then dropped the leaves everywhere in the room that doesn't get as much sun. I even made a clipping and planted it ages ago, but it just won't grow out even though it's still alive. Maybe now with more light, it will. I got two more clippings today and hung up all the vines in the skylight where they can hopefully be nice and productive.

Could it ever regrow leaves where they've fallen off? I doubt it, but new growth on the ends would have it. One of those vines has several loops off to the right before it goes up, too. Kinda silly but I wasn't ready to give up on the vine just yet.

Obviously I'd rather have kitties sunning the day away on that tower, but in the meantime, it'll be nice for the plants to get more sun. There's skylights on both sides, but the right side in the picture is the south side.
