An update is in order
Feb. 25th, 2023 12:56 pmPaxlovid is a highly effective drug, over 85% effective for keeping people with additional risk factors out of the hospital. But unfortunately one thing that can happen is that it wipes nearly all of the COVID out of your body, but the little bit that's left can come back and make you sick again. That's called a "Paxlovid rebound" and it's a real bummer when you think it's over for several days and even test negative, but then feel terrible again.
I tested negative and Garrett had a very faint line, so we figured we were in the clear, but a few days later, we were both wiped out again. I tested negative on Thursday, but he's not quite there yet.
Oh, and there was another bump in the road. One possible side effect of Paxlovid is increased blood pressure, and that hit Garrett pretty hard. He ended up going to the walk-in clinic and found out he got COVID-related pneumonia, too. So in addition to the Paxlovid side effects, he also had to deal with the ones associated with antibiotics. It hasn't been fun.
Thankfully he's doing a lot better.
That's really all there is to report. I'm glad remote work enables working while sick since all my PTO comes from one bucket. I ended up taking one day off because I was completely wiped out after taking Garrett to the clinic, picking him up, then driving to the pharmacy for his prescription. You know you're sick when even driving is completely exhausting.
Oh, there's one other thing. We had to delay Tuvix's grooming appointment because he had diarrhea, then it was delayed again because we got sick and the groomer did, too. She wasn't able to contend with all the mats in his ear hair and some in the base of his tail, so he ended up with a very different look.

We have to step up the brushing game. I ordered some detangler, too. It'll be important because they are so busy, they weren't able to book him for another two months after his last appointment, and ideally he should be in every month for grooming. I was about to try to get him an appointment halfway through the two months with someone else, but it ended up being too close to when he'll finally be neutered. Washington State is a very good place to get adopted or purchased as a pet; so good, we import animals by the truckload from shelters in other states. And that only increased during the pandemic, when people were at home more and wanted pets around. But the vets can't keep up. He could have been neutered as early as December, if not for the backup at our new vet.
