Oct. 7th, 2023 12:38 pmOur last trip to Coupeville was bittersweet and the timing was terrible. We learned the owners were closing our favorite restaurant, The Oystercatcher, so we had to plan a trip to eat there one more time. We found a dog-friendly rental and everything, but Tuvix came down with diarrhea. I knew we'd resent him forever if we missed that final dinner, so we still went. The dog-friendliest part of this rental is a giant laundry room that's perfect for leaving dogs behind in, with nice linoleum flooring in case a mess happens.
Of course he made a mess in one of the bedrooms right when we got there. Luckily that was the only one. We had our dinner and a great rest of the trip, and waited for months to hear about the restaurant's fate.
The new owners opened The Oystercatcher recently and I was happy to see a similarly creative farm-to-table menu. One new thing they were doing was a happy hour, so we scheduled another trip to try it out last weekend. It was scheduled pretty far in advance and in the interim we decided to invite Bev (Garrett's mom) along. No diarrhea meant no worries about taking the ferry, so we saved a lot of time over driving the longer route through Deception Pass.

It's only a 2-bedroom but I was fine sleeping on the couch, and we brought an inflatable bed just in case the couch wasn't good for sleeping. But it was! Everyone really enjoyed the view from the rental, including Tuvix.

Bev and Tuvix both really liked the corner spot on the couch. That led to a lot of staring from Tuvix when she had it, as well as a lot of cuddling when they'd share.

We also had a nice time around town in the morning on Saturday, including a trip through the flat loop at Price Sculpture Forest. There's another steep loop that we knew to avoid with Bev in tow.

I'm happy and relieved to report that dinner was great. We hoped some of the old staff would be back, but we didn't recognize anyone. I'm looking forward to many more visits.
