Unlucky Friday the 13th
Oct. 14th, 2023 06:56 amMost tattoo shops celebrate Friday the 13th by making it a big event with special flash designs drawn up specifically for that day. My regular shop (Lion's Paw Tattoo in Everett, WA) went all out this year, partnering with a bar on the same block so they could display a huge amount of flash new and old, and give people a place to hang out while they waited their turn while DJs played. Brilliant! But still not enough to get me to head over.
Or so I thought.
This year I finally saw an F13 design I'd go get. But I'm really broke from the last two tattoos and my hiking trip. To make matters even worse, the design was by a guest artist so who can say if it'll be around next time a Friday the 13th rolls around?
The good news is that those events are so busy, the designs aren't limited to the artist who created them; they all do each other's. They have to. I don't know the total yet but I saw on various Instagram stories that the event was still going strong at 11pm, twelve hours after it started. People who couldn't keep waiting or couldn't get gotten to at the end were promised they'd get the same deal if they scheduled a session within a month. The apprentice posted that they did 42 tattoos! I'm not sure if they really still in the shop at 4am but he was still awake when they posted an image saying, "done." (EDIT: Just saw another artist saying she was finishing up at 6:31am!)
I can probably talk to owner into doing that one for me next time I work with him, or schedule with that artist at some point. Another tattoo on the list.
Haha, I just added it to the list I keep and it was number 13.
