Meet Tilly!
Sep. 8th, 2024 04:29 pmA week ago, Garrett's cousin Becky came over for a barbecue and brought her dog Bear.

He's a goldendoodle, and after we originally met him, we planned on getting one, too. That's how we came up with the name Tuvix, because he was a fusion of Tuvok and Neelix, and the breed is a cross between a poodle and a golden retriever. I honestly can't remember how the plan changed and we went full poodle, but we kept the name Tuvix. Fast forward 2.5 years or so, and Tuvix and Bear were running around our yard having the best time. Garrett said we should get a second dog and I said I knew of one who needed a home!
A few weeks before that, a friend at water fitness said she knew about a dog, so I messaged her for details. I got a flurry of texts and learned the owner hoping to rehome a dog was someone else I knew from water fitness. Friend number 1 put us in touch and details started coming in. While we were waiting, we worked on choosing a name. It would be our first girl pet and we wanted to stay with the Star Trek theme, and we landed on Tilly, a hilarious character from Star Trek Discovery. That turned out to be a perfect name, because the dog's original name was Lily.
Tilly's owner said she could bring her by for a visit after her very first grooming appointment, and if we wanted, we could do a trial stay while she went out of town for a wedding. There was no pressure at all, if we weren't feeling it during the visit they could leave together, and if we didn't think it was a good match after she stayed with us, she could pick her up when she got back. And if it was urgently not working out, her boyfriend could come pick her up.
It wasn't an issue at all. We fell in love with her immediately.

Tilly is a 6-month-old parti goldendoodle, which means that her coat is part white and part one other color. It's pretty interesting that partis exist and apparently get all their color from the poodle side, you'd never know to look at her that she's half golden retriever. But she's got that face just like Bear does. Her face isn't groomed as closely as we're planning on trying because they were about to do it at her very first appointment but she decided the appointment was finished. We hope when we take Tuvix in for his next grooming that they can quickly clean her face up, then we can bring her back and leave Tuvix behind. They're booked out months in advance, though, so that might not be possible.
We were supposed to go to California soon, but that trip's canceled and we don't have any travel plans for two months. I'll post about all that later. Probably when we get back from that one-night trip in November. We may also do an overnight or weekend in Coupeville before the end of the year. Thankfully Tilly came already spayed, microchipped, and current on her shots. All we have to do for boarding is get the fecal parasite test that's always required.
It's definitely a lot of work having a puppy in the house again, and she's much more vocal that Tuvix ever was. But seeing them play together really reinforces that it was the right decision to get Tuvix a sister.
