Two more makes four
Sep. 26th, 2024 04:50 amA while back, I learned the director who originally hired me to teach water fitness was moving away. Shortly after that, I heard that my summer hiatus would extend indefinitely while a new director was hired and that new person created their own budget and schedule. I said no thanks, because I have lots of opportunities available to me.
I could have picked up more days at my local branch, but once a week is plenty for me because every shift there is brutal due to the heat. I could have asked for more at Mill Creek, but it's far and classes are shorter and harder to program. But none of that really factored in because I was holding out for a couple of days a week at Mukilteo. It's the most comfortable location to teach in terms of temperature, but the true motivator was the eGym. I finally found a strength training routine that works for me, and that branch has the only one in the whole state. Not just in YMCA branches, but anywhere.
The Tuesday/Thursday instructor has traveled a lot recently, and I got great feedback while subbing for her. She's moving away and originally gave her notice to an interim director, then again to the newly-hired one. In her letter, she recommended reaching out to me as her replacement.
On Monday, I got a few tattoos, including my water fitness-inspired second row of knuckles.

On Tuesday, I got the call. Starting the week of October 7, I'll be the new Tuesday/Thursday instructor in Mukilteo, which makes my schedule:
Monday: Mill Creek
Tuesday: Mukilteo
Thursday: Mukilteo
Friday: Everett
It'll be weird having so much less availability for subbing. That's how I made a name for myself and it also was nice to be able to pick and choose, plus it made days off easy to schedule.
I'm keeping my eye out for potential new instructors, because we need more. There's nobody to cover Thursdays at 11:15 in Everett now and I'm subbing today and on 10/3. I'm working in Mukilteo at 7:30 on 10/10 and told Everett I'd only sub for them at 11:15 if the class would be canceled otherwise. Two classes in a day is a lot, especially if the second is in the heat. There's a job posting and hopefully they find someone soon.
I already managed to recruit a friend who's starting in Mill Creek any day now. Can I do it again? There's someone in Everett I have in mind, but that will require running into her because I have no contact info. Maybe she'll be there today.
