Full list of March questions here.

16. How often do you eat out?

Not often enough! I'm trying to change that, though, and want to eat lunch out at least once a week. Lately I've been going to Bayside Cafe a lot and I think I need to do that maybe every other week and do something else the other weeks. It's very easy for people to work at home to fall into a pattern of always eating at home, too. It's one of those things that slowly contributes to depression if you're not careful.

17. It’s Kurt Russell’s birthday – a child actor who grew up. Have you seen any of the Disney films in which he acted (he played the college student Dexter Riley)?

I haven't seen his Disney movies but he made a lot of great movies later on. If I had to pick a best one, it'd definitely be The Thing, but don't miss Escape from New York, Silkwood, Big Trouble in Little China, and Overboard, even though Overboard has a bit of a creep factor. I don't like Forrest Gump at all, but don't hold it against anyone who was in it.

It was a surprise to see he played Elvis Presley in a movie once! Might have to check that out.

18. Which flowers or trees are blooming where you live now?

The cherry blossoms are blooming all around us, except for on the huge tree in our back yard, which always blooms much later.

19. If you had the space (and the time), would you like to keep chickens?

I wouldn't, but Garrett would like to and I'm fine with him doing it. For now, we have the best of both worlds: neighbors who have chickens. In fact, there are a dozen fresh eggs upstairs just waiting to be cooked. And I make the most incredible scrambled eggs.

20. Was learning a new language part of your education when you were at school? Can you still remember any of it?

I think a second language should be required in school much like how I had to take typing, computers, home ec, shop, and gym. And I think to say otherwise is isolationist and weird. However, languages were only electives at my middle and high schools, and I took two years of German in high school and another two in college. I almost majored in German! But when I realized I didn't want to teach or translate for a living, I changed majors. I still really feel like I learned more about English by taking German than I did in English class, and I still remember a lot of German. I was doing German lessons in Duolingo until they decided to lay off a bunch of their staff and use AI instead.

I didn't think when I set up my Y Community Campaign fundraiser for 2026 that anyone would take me up on my highest-tier incentive, which is getting to pick my hair color for $200. A very generous donor gave me and Nelly each $300! When I asked her if she wanted to pick the color she didn't really have one in mind, so I told her what one of the lifeguards was really hoping for. Since Garrett and I have both been sick lately, it took until today to finally do it.

Me before dye

I wonder if the flickr pervs who like guys getting their hair done will discover that photo. Or if they're even still around.
