What a great trip. It's weird to look back at a whole week and try to decide what to post about here, so I'm just going to go through the set for a while and see what jumps out at me. Click on any photo and go up into the full set, comment there or here with a link if you have any questions.

Here's the church.

Not going to go find the name and paste it here. I never learned it. Or most of the names. They're all so complex. This picture was taken from right outside our place, so you can see it was a really good landmark for us. Tallest building, high hill, always easy to see which way to go to get home.

Our apartment. We had the upper floor of this little building, which we accessed via a scary spiral staircase in the back. It was great. Except for the staircase. And I guess the bathtub was a little slippery. No complaints, though. Great deal, great spot. What's that in the window?

It's Garrett! He's doing the "G-Wave", which I've been collecting as many pictures of as I can since we started going places.

We didn't go up into the top of the church, but we did go up to the Perlan, which is an observation deck, cafeteria, and rotating restaurant built on six water towers on top of a hill. It looks like a flower from Satellite view. It was cool. Here are some pictures taken from there:

This is Javier.

IMG_3066

He's from Spain, but he likes geology and engineering, so he moved to Iceland 14 years ago. He wasn't supposed to be our tour guide, but our first tour on the first full day was canceled due to weather, so David the tour guide got us on Javier's tour of an area we were going to check out later. That worked out nicely, even though we followed him out along a very scary, snow covered ledge to a get a good view of a fissure:

Cool, but so not worth it. If one of us would have slid off, it would have been about a 40-foot drop to either rocks or icy water. Walking out to that is pretty much the only thing I wouldn't do again on this trip. But check out the other photos from that same day. Lots of rad waterfalls and stuff.

Gah, I just realized how jacked the set is because my camera had the wrong date because of leap year for a while. It wouldn't be as noticeable, but a lot of Garrett's pictures are in there, but his dates aren't wrong. Sigh.

The second day of tours was funny, because we drove past some of the same places, but they were covered with snow the day before. It all melted overnight, so our second day of tours was lots of green and waterfalls.

I really liked this sci-fi black beach, even though it was so windy we got sandburns.

And we got to see A GLACIER:

Please visit the set for geysers, steam, and all kinds of fun stuff. I have been up since 3:45 and am suddenly so very tired. Toodles!

Awesome pics! I was surprised to learn Iceland's population is so small. I guess I pictured it being bigger.

these are great. I wanna visit Iceland, maybe after living in Seattle for a while. did Neely visit Iceland? I was stalking her flickr one night and saw pics that she referred to as "from trip to iceland". Anyway, seems like an inevitable progression from living in Seattle for a while. thanks again for sharing pics and captions, I will look some more on flickr!

I don't know Neely all that well. She may have gone. You should definitely go, it's pretty neato.

The architect designed the church on those lava floes at the black beach.
