Drivers need to pay attention, we shouldn't be asked to put on a flag
twirling show to get them to look up from their phones.

i always thought this was the dumbest idea. like i do with most things, i just googled to learn more about it.

it turns out these are placed by members of the community. before SDOT did a pilot study on them in 2008 (which concluded they have little effect), they'd actually remove them, but the current policy is to leave them.

The only reason I like them (as a driver) is that it shows that the person really actually needs to cross the street instead of me stopping at the crosswalk because someone is just standing on the damn corner aimlessly.

They have them at every crosswalk through downtown Port Orchard and I greatly appreciate them. :p

As a person who walks with a purpose and is conscious of the problem of people who appear to want to cross but actually don't, I think those people who stand there for no reason are stupid and so are the flags.

Yep. The douches who stand right next to the sidewalks are stupid, and I've been yelled at because (despite slowing down to "see" if someone was intending on crossing and it appeared like he wasn't), I proceeded to drive through the intersection and then the guy was all REALLY?! FUCK YOU!@$!$!@%!@$ etc at me. Uuhh, well, you didn't really seem to want to cross, fuckwad.

aaaaand anyways..

Drivers hate pedestrians. Pedestrians hate drivers. I've been in both situations and basically we all just hate each other. ;)
