Question for the international types

In the US, we always giggle a bit when we hear "six inches." What's the equivalent in centimeters? I'm not asking for a distance conversion, but rather for what's accepted to be "average" in metric countries. Please advise.

Would sound weird saying I'm 15.24 cm. We use inches here for that as well.

i vaguely remember 12cm from living in france in 1997, but i could be wrong. perhaps women made that up so they are more often pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed.
