For a three-year period starting in 1994, I worked out on a very boring exercise machine for 40 minutes a day, six days a week. That's 1500+ workouts and I listened to the same CD every single time.

This was a time before we all had iPods and phones that could play MP3s, and even before we all had a spindle of CDs we could record onto. With the setup we had (six disc changer on a nice sound system) it was best to just choose a CD, and I found if I played the whole thing through, then skipped back and played the last four tracks, it was perfect. Maybe a little too perfect. Or maybe I'm just weird for being able to listen to the same CD single so many times.

Once again, I found myself needing a soundtrack. A few weeks ago, I decided I wanted to add something to my walks. During those, I just listen to my whole collection on shuffle. Now I'm doing some elastic band resistance training in the morning after walking an hour. It's a system that uses an anchor which you close into a doorway, so I have to do it in my room. There's a Roku in there, and I've found that the KMFDM station on Pandora is pretty great. I get to hear a lot of old favorites, plus stuff I've never heard that I like immediately.

I set up a bunch of playlists on iTunes with different dance tracks such that the BPM either increase or decrease depending on the type of treadmill session I'm looking for. Technology is grand, ain't it?

It is! I should use playlists and stuff but I'm ok with shuffle as long as I'm using earbuds with a skip button on the cord. :)

I've always thought it was weird how you could do that without getting sick of hearing the same thing over and over. I get on kicks where I listen to a CD for a couple of days, but then I have to switch out.

God, I loved KMFDM. I can't even tell you how many times I saw them in concert. Industrial music, in general, was huge for me. All about the Wax Trax.

Some of it has aged so poorly, though. Eesh!
