I'd like to popularize a gesture.

You don't want to be rude and interrupt when someone's telling you a story they've already told you, but you also don't want to have to listen to the whole thing again. Especially if it's a long one. My friend Paul and I agreed that we were repeating things often enough that it was time to make up a gesture. The one we came up with was to point at our ear and do a little tapping motion. Paired with a smirk, it works great.

I have a feeling it might work even with people who haven't seen it before. At the very least, there's a good chance they'll ask you what you're doing, and you can explain that they've told you the story before. Try it! Let me know how it works.

My friend Erin and her group of friends had a code. When someone started telling a story they had all heard before, they would say "Happy New Year". Because apparently one friend had been really drunk on NYE one year and told the same story a bunch of times. And it always worked because it made everyone laugh.

An old coworker and I had a secret code for talking about guys who were around. We'd ask if the other was going to "Heather's party" on Saturday, the time being their position. Like if they were behind us, The party was at 6:00. We'd answer yes if they were hot, or no if they weren't.

Heather was our bitch of a boss, so we chose her name because it was obviously not a real party we were talking about.

Most Heathers are terrible. Ha.

I love codes like that. Valerie and her sister made up the code CBA for Cute Boy Alert. This was when they were younger and didn't want their dad knowing they were checking out guys.

Is it available On Demand yet? I was waiting for it to show up at the local arthouse theatre, but I don't think it's going to show there.

It is, I just need to bite the bullet and pay instead of waiting for Netflix.

Silent Duck can also double as "Zip it! Keep your mouth shut!"
