Devil Wind
Dec. 14th, 2006 11:26 pmTonight was the first time I ever felt like I might suffer bodily harm or death because of the wind. On my way to the bus stop, I saw a road sign blown over, just barely held up by the sign in front of it. Trees with freshly broken branches undulated all around. I didn't want to stand under the shelter at the bus stop because the billboard above it looked like it could collapse, but was eventually forced in because the wind was so strong it was impossible to stand still. Just after I got under the shelter, there was a blackout that took out every light in the block I was on. For some reason, everyone wanted to be out and about instead of somewhere inside, so the bus was late, crowded, and slow. Then it was rerouted off of 4th downtown because something was blocking the road.
Some parts of the experience were fun, though. I ran effortlessly down 3rd ave with the wind behind me, it was like being a gazelle. It was also really cool to see the trees covered in lights downtown sway back and forth. I'm definitely taking my camera tomorrow. Mother Nature is also quite the prankster. When the bus finally came for the last part of my journey, everyone came out from hiding only to be blown over by the strongest gust of wind I felt all night.
My socks were soaked on the way to work, so now is the first time my feet haven't been cold and wet in 11 hours. The whole ordeal also got me home about 40 minutes late.
Completely unrelated, Netflix somehow sent me a second copy of Jeepers Creepers 2, it was waiting in the mailbox when I got home.

Date: 2006-12-15 07:44 am (UTC)there were also tons of people driving like maniacs and blantently breaking traffic laws, but never in the manner that pisses me off, it was a lot of fun driving tonight. there were the slow scared cars, but that's to be expected in this weather.
at one point i was driving through a residental neighborhood when that block's power came back on, changing from pitch black to christmas lights was weird. most people obviously didn't turn things off once the power went out!
