It does! Poke some holes, rub a little olive oil and salt on them, wrap in foil, and cook eight hours on low. Much better results than I've ever had in the oven. The site I read about it on said they can be a little darker and more caramelized, but that didn't happen this time.
I've just never been patient enough for baked potatoes in the oven. It's easier for me to let something go all day for some reason. And it makes the kitchen smell amazing. And it doesn't heat the place up. Totally awesome.
Very interesting. I normally nuke them, though I miss the skins getting a little crispy from being in the oven. After the time in the microwave, I wrap them in foil and let them sit for 10 minutes to carryover cook, but that totally moistens the skins.
I will have to try this. It's hot as balls in the house during summertime, and we don't have a/c, so running the oven isn't an option. I often steam potatoes with the skins on, but I bet this is way better.
