The swim.com app on my watch really shit the bed this morning. I thought the 1,825 yards it said I swam on Thursday seemed a little high, but as I watched it fail to keep track today, I decided to use the clock on the wall to time a few laps. It almost always takes me about 50 seconds to get across the pool, which in an hour would be 72 times across. I always lose a couple of minutes for the times I stop to de-fog my goggles, but even with that, 18,25 yards is a lot closer to reality than the 475 my watch said I did today. That's simply not possible, and I saw it stay on the same numbers for several laps. Not sure what its deal is, but I'll keep trying.

It's not a huge deal anyway, as entering the distance and laps didn't make any difference in the estimate of the calories burned in the app. It says 964 either way. And I'm not counting calories. I like counting distances and times, and even if I'm never satisfied with with swim.com's doing on my watch, I can install a manual counter if I really want to record the distance. And Forest Park's opening again soon, so I'll probably be doing more treading water again. There's no distance to record there, just time.

The drive out to the aquatic center today was a real treat. I'm used to it being pitch black, but Spring's here and sunrise is happening earlier each day. Today was the first time I drove out where there was a gorgeous sunrise to enjoy the whole time.

Some of my own swim.com thoughts/experiences.

1. It took more than 7 days to even get it close to right. Even so, today, it missed 100 yards. I have learned that for me, if it's going to fail, it's usually within the first 200 yards so I check it at every lap turn for the first 10/15 mins.

2. I do NOT use the ai stuff. That never works for me.

3. I bring up the app and when I get 00:00 and 0 yds, I long press the center button until the times starts and then I head out.

4. About the only way it knows the lap has started is by your watch hand gliding a bit as you start so be sure and glide to start the lap.

5. If I see that it has stalled (missed a lap or two), I hit the bottom button once to end the interval and then hit the top button to start a new one. The main counter just continues (combining the two intervals).

6. When it's time to stop, I long press the center button again. And it gives me the time and yardage.

I'm sure it's my imagination but I fell like the app or the Pebble or both are 'learning' me as they seem to get more accurate every day.

Thanks! Not really sure why it never occurred to me to end the interval and start a new one. "Stop and start" is a pretty basic troubleshooting step for nearly everything. :)

Well, I didn't try it for the longest time because I didn't 'get' that it would still enable you to see the cumulative which is all I really care about. I got so frustrated I just tried everything :)

I suppose none of these trackers can be that accurate can they. I have to tell my Fitbit some activities through MyFitnessPal as that has more options for the things I do (like heavy duty housework! *g* which is still exercise!).
