Going, going, green!
Apr. 14th, 2026 04:40 pmMany of you weren't around during the 11 years during which I shaved my head. It was a good look for me, but I certainly got tired of the commentary that came with it. People definitely have a lot to say when your stubble reveals that you have a very full head of hair but choose to shave it off!
I decided to grow it back out after my last long-term relationship ended, and one thing I hated about doing that was having to pay to get my hair cut every few weeks. But it always looked pretty good and I got lots of compliments, so I persevered. Then 2020 happened. You might remember a lot of guys a couple of months into lockdowns ordering clippers and shaving their heads. I did the opposite and grew mine out. Then Garrett started shaving the sides and back for me, and that's when I decided I probably wouldn't pay for haircuts again. Why should I? What I really wanted was my hair to turn silver so I could wear it that way for a while, and then start to fall out with some typical male pattern baldness.
The silver didn't happen and I ended up using Minoxidil (Rogaine) once my hair started thinning out at the crown. That was really only because Garrett likes the hair. You're supposed to apply it to a clean scalp twice daily for best results, but I was only ever willing to do it once because it's oily, so I only want to do it at bedtime.
There were defintiely results, but time is catching up and the results aren't as resulty. And I'm fine with that. There will come a time pretty soon where I shave it off, but for now I'll keep doing colors. Of course we had to try green while I'm still at it!

I like it, but I'm also just ready to be done. I like beards and bald heads and will be excited to wear what I like. Plus it'll be great to be able to do my own hair, I definitely miss that aspect. Shaving technology has come a long way since the last time I shaved my own head, and it's exciting to have a new style of shaver in my arsenal. Speaking of which, I think it's been delivered and is waiting on the porch.
