2026QOTD May 6-10

6. Have you ever completed a cryptic crossword, or do you stick to the easy ones?
I've done a couple of difficult ones, but it's been a long time since I did one at all. That's another of those "maybe when I retire" type of activities.
7. Do you take your phone everywhere, or sometimes leave it at home and not worry about it?
I take it everywhere and would worry about not having it if I didn't. There are major and minor concerns. A major one would be needing it to record if there were some sort of incident and I needed to gather proof of what occurred. A minor one would be seeing something cool and wanting to get a picture. And thanks to Android Auto, I consider my phone a vital part of my car that lets me navigate and listen to the music I want to. At the grocery store there are sometimes excellent deals and you need your phone to scan them to your account. Probably the most impactful to the most people is when I use it to play music during my classes.
8. Henry Dunant was born today in 1828 – he was the co-founder of the Red Cross. Have you ever learned first aid? Could you resuscitate someone?
Great timing on this question. I have to be certified to provide basic life support in order to work at the Y. It needs to be renewed every two years and I completed the online portion May 3 and will do the in-person portion on the 17th. I know when it's appropriate to perform CPR and I can do it. And I really hope I never have to.
9. In 1896, the first horseless carriage show in London featured ten models. Do you own a car? What kind of car is it?
My current car is a 2017 Kia Soul+. The plus part is an upgrade package with a better sound system, touch screen, etc. It wasn't a car I specifically sought, I just had a certain amount of insurance money when my cargo van was totaled by an uninsured driver who left the scene. I went to Carfax, put in my budget, and mostly found it was Kias that I could afford. There were a few around town but funnily enough one with very low mileage was at the small dealership in our neighborhood. We joked often that if we needed a car we could always walk there and grab one, and while I didn't walk there, I ended up getting one there.
10. Are there some colours you would never wear or use in your home?
I wouldn't say never, but you'll see very little red in my wardrobe or in my home. I think it's a terrible color and I've never understood why it's a default color for expensive cars. No offense intended to anyone who likes it, just like I'm sure a lot of people think my orange bathroom is tacky as all get out. People's preferences in areas like this are harmless and shouldn't be taken personally.
