My dream this morning kept switching between two plots. I'll explain how they intersected at the end.

In one plot, I had just broken up with some celebrity. It was a lead singer of a band. Not sure who, but I remember wishing it had been the lead singer of Live because he was better looking. I was living in a weird situation with several of my high school friends and they spent their time trying to win vacations on the internet.

In the other plot, I was back in India. I'd just arrived, and a bunch of my team members from over there were picking me up along with a few people I hadn't met yet. When they tried to introduce themselves, I couldn't hear them. Gurgaon was very different from what I remembered. The weather was wet and cool, there were shops everywhere, the streets were nicely paved and full of life, and there was a beach. On the beach, people were making giant camels out of sand. Picture the Sphinx, but a camel, and about 45 of them on a beach.

I was worried because they didn't have a welcome packet for me, which would have included keys to the apartment and a cell phone. My phone worked, but I was afraid I'd pay outrageous international rates.

We drove up the steepest hill imagineable. It was so steep I was afraid we'd actually start sliding backward if we had to stop for any reason.

When they dropped me off, the plot kept switching from the first to the second. They left me at a house which became the one I was in earlier with the high school people. I'd get a conference call from them on a laptop welcoming me back to India, then I'd be in a library answering a conference call from my friends about the band leader breakup.

I eventually decided to get ready and try to head to the office. I went to the shower, which was a room-sized structure outside. It was raining, and water just sort of gathered on the roof and spilled through. My brother walked by outside while I was in there and said something about the roof needing repairs because it the panels were hanging down into where they shouldn't be. It was true, you had to stand between them.

Then Rodney Dangerfield walked into the yard. He was wearing a black suit with a red tie. I started to give him a bj and then I woke up.

Ok, Guragon sounds like an enemy of Godzilla's.

Rodney Dangerfield. Huh.

I know someone (a former film teacher of mine) who produced some of Rodney's films, and from what I understand he was much more often wearing a light, gauzy robe when he could. He had some kind of skin condition that made wearing clothes really uncomfortable, so every chance he'd get, he'd go back to his room and get naked, and put on the robe if he had guests.

He'd also box up a ton of food from catering and craft service and take it back to his room. Then instead of using his per diem money for room service on days when he wasn't shooting, he'd just eat these leftovers. He'd even invite people over 'for dinner' and serve them cold leftovers.

And at dinner in a restaurant, he never ever ever picked up the check.

But he was reportedly very nice and just as funny in person.

Not long after Rodney died, the class was asking this teacher about him. The funniest thing (in the teacher's opinion) that Rodney ever said--

Teacher/producer, Rodney, and some other people were riding in a car in Los Angeles, and the conversation involved the fancy, expensive birthday parties that some of the guys put on for their kids, and how they felt like they had to compete with other rich people's kids' parties. Elephants, clowns, pony rides, crazy expensive stuff. They talked about how crazy it was to put on this expensive event to out-do the neighbors.

(paraphrased to the best of my memory)
Rodney: No matter how much they spend, they still can't compete with Christmas. Now that's a birthday party!

You'll blow anyone!

There must be something in the air this month - my dreams have been complex and bizarre.

Dangerfield? So it was a nightmare then?

I used to have a HUGE crush on Ed Kowalczyk. Still do on his voice.
