If you happen to see me drinking some water at a bar, please don't give me a hard time about it. It's a good thing to drink less alcohol, and you shouldn't bother me for doing a good thing just because I have lowered your expectations.

If I may attempt to help translate: I'm guessing part of what he's saying is, don't be all "OMGURNOTDRINKINGWTF" and drawing all sorts of attention to that fact, and thus making him feel self-conscious. Even if you actually support the water drinking, it would be more helpful to just pretend you didn't notice.
